New to me - GS SBGX115

Post by 3migo » Thu Jun 13, 2024 9:17 am

After being curious about this model for years, I finally picked up a SBGX115 - the white dialed 9F quartz GS diver.

If you're familiar with this model, you know that they're increasingly hard to find as there just weren't ever that many stateside. I spotted this one on WUS and was able to pick it up for a reasonable price (compared to what I've seen some listings at). It's been well worn but still looks great.

I've always found these to be that great blend of weirdness from Seiko. The double Seiko/GS logos, the art deco style font for the bezel, the designation as an "Air Diver" with compass ticks engraved on the caseback...All comes together in a way that just works for me. I'm a big fan of the 9F movement, and sadly most of the GS divers that have come out have been far too big for my baby wrists to handle. This one strikes a good balance at ~42mm.

Anyways, here's a quick pic! I know some other guys have had one of these or its black dial sibling over the years as well.

Nice. I had the black dial and always liked the white. Congrats!

Don't worry, this is definitely one that I would want to keep in the DWC family whenever I've done my time with it. It's too good and hard to come by to let it back out into the general public.

I have owned the 115 and 117 two different times. Killer watches. And the clarity of the white/silver dial is amazing.

Let me know when you move this one please.

These are fantastic. Congrats.

The 'Air Diver' reference relates to it's non-saturation diver designation (apologies if you already understood that).

That makes a lot more sense. I thought they were trying to position it somehow as a pilot diver combo model. Interesting! Thanks for sharing.
