I have a 2014 MacBook Air that still runs (ran) like new.
I updated to the newest iOS last night “Big Sur” and it put my MacBook on to error mode.
I have rebooted several times, to no avail.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks fellas.

Reload the last version. Big Sur is not meant for Apple machines older than 2015, if I recall correctly.

Maybe it's time to upgrade? The new M1 chips seem awesome, I'll hold out until the iMac M1's come out. Luckily I was able to update my 2015 Macbook pro.

I still use my old 2009 MacBook Pro. Overstuffed the RAM with a hack a friend taught me. Still good.
Good luck with a fix!

What's the hack?
I'm still running a MacBook Pro from 2010 (MacBookPro7,1 - 2.66 GHz).
I'm not sure what I'm going to do when 10.13 (High Sierra) goes EoL. Maybe I'll install a Linux distro on it.

I am at the Genius Bar right now. MacBook has to be wiped clean and re-loaded - no other fix. The Big Sur update was corrupt.
The Apple Tech guy said “Apple is working on the issue but there’s likely to be many, many people affected by this”.

That's terrible. Hopefully you have your data backed up somewhere.

I have my Update Settings setup to let me know when a new one is ready, but not to automatically DL and update. That way, I can do a full backup, then load the new update.

Quite possibly part of Apple’s “cleansing” for a new product launch...

Nothing would surprise me. They were fined just over $100M for throttling speed on older phones, when their cash reserve is north of $200B. Lol- crooked as a politician.

I’ll look for it again. Basically, the Max RAM listed isn’t correct. You can add more with my model. I wasn’t able to surf the internet at one point, and now, it’s fine. I definitely don’t update the OS tho.

That sucks. I hope you have a backup system in place, so you don’t lose important stuff.

I read that Big Sur breaks 3rd party VPN's. Worth considering if that is a thing for you

Hahaha!!!
All good, wiped clean, Big Sur installed. All my info was re-installed via the Cloud.
Apparently the issue is with computers updating from Catalina to Big Sur, a new install works fine.

Update- Apple just dropped a new update on Big Sur for those with older MB’s who were having issues updating. Got mine done earlier, and it is running great.
