Help with vintage Omega 200m

Post by VA Diver » Sun Oct 27, 2013 5:05 am

Total noob here. This old Omega looks like the bees knees to me. I could see diving with it but don't really need to, mostly think it would just look kick ass. The problem is I don't know anything about anything when it comes to nice watches.

Will a watch this old still run reliably? Will it require a lot of hassle/bucks to maintain?

Who can I reliably buy from? Are fakes a real concern?

Is this thing old but generally available, or is it really hard to find?

What is a fair price for one in good condition? (this one could be had for $3k on ebay)

There are probably more questions I should ask but those seem like my biggest ones right now.

Thanks for the help!

I have a Omega SHOM 200m from about the same era. It cost me about around 250 for a service it failed the pressure test due to a bad crown well it was the original crown from the 1970's. Well I got a replacement Omega crown from watchco and then it passed the pressure test being vintage I don't know if I would swim with it but good to know it was water proof. Some time's watchco sells NOS ones with vintage movements from another model but same caliber as the original ones that would be safe to dive with. It all depends if you want original that hold there value or a NOS recase some collectors don't call original and drop in price if you flip it. If you go NOS watchco some times it will need a service because it may not have been serviced or pressure tested.

I've been watching that one as well. No worries on service and reliability....it's an Omega! As long as there hasn't been case degradation, it'll be waterproof a-ok.

And for reliability my Omega 300 cir 1967 that I just added to the collection is about one second fast in 2 days not bad for a old watch but that's due to I got it from Jack at IWW who also relumes watches and services them it depends who regulates your watch for time keeping.

He's had it on his website for a few months. Given he's facing fees, I'd offer him $2500 through his website.

Has anyone ever dealt with these guys? Reputable?

What do I really need to be aware of before buying a vintage watch?

Service and pressure test. With Omega, movement parts are readily available. Exterior parts on certain models can be harder, but this one looks to have a good bezel and crown.

As Mike said, parts should be the problem... got a new crown from Omega for mine about two years ago... and it also passed the pressure test!

This one is a very cool watch and you seen them not that often as the 300m model. The pilot line divers are qite rare!

Here's a picture of mine..

I'd buy that sweet old Omega at the price that seemed right to me and never look back.

Just like I did.

Also an old Omega 200.
