Thinking About A Speedy Mod- "Patina" Relume

Post by dshap » Sun Feb 19, 2012 1:19 pm

I had a crazy idea. Send my Speedy to Kent Parks and have him redo the lume with vintage patina color lume. The process is probably reversible, right?

I guess it would look something like this:

I don't know what you mean by reversible but he has to take off all of the old lume to put the new stiff on.

But Kent is the best and it would look great IMO.

If that's what you want, I hear kent is the right man for the job... Under $150 if I recall...

It's just your first expensive watch, right?

I think it *could* look cool if done well. I know a guy at TRF who did this with a Sub (I believe Kent did the work) and it looks great. I think resale will take a hit, and even if you don't sell it, make sure you won't get bored of the look.

Yup. It has sentimental value, and I can't bring myself to sell it.

I mean if you can take the lume off and put patina lume, you can later take off the patina lume and put regular lume back so it looks original, right?

I don't care about resale because I can't sell it.

Why not hold onto the watch for many years and watch it slowly patina naturally

Honestly, get an extra dial and hands to mess around with. A 57 reissue dial would be sweet for that mod

I think you should do the panda mod you originally planned.

I'm sure he could make the vintage lume look just like this patina'd lume.

They don't make the original stepped dial anymore. I would be careful about messing around with it.
Speedy mods are better done on a newer watch with easily sourced spare parts.

David here is the deal, if you want some lume on your watch then get it done. Kent is the best and I don't think he would even consider reluming it if he had a issue with it.

If you listen to everyone hear then you would be buying what is the new flavor of the month.

Oh and if you relume it would you use it more? I would since I enjoy being able to see the dial in the middle of the night. Then it would be a all around daily wearer if I choose for it to be.

Good luck in your decision.

I'd buy a separate dial if I was going that route.

Big D, Kent is the man and he can hit that vintage patina look perfect and there is nobody on the planet better than him! A lot of guys do a little bit of everything and it really shows up on their lume work... Kent does nothing but re-lume and it's amazing, go for it!

:naughty: :snooty:

I don't know why you would. Just enjoy the watch for the classic that it is.
If you want to screw around with lume, then find something else to do it with (that does not hold sentimental value.) :tap:
