Ones that got away...

Post by Steve O. » Thu Jan 01, 2015 8:43 am

Now that the new year is here, I was doing some reminiscing. As I was looking through some old pic files of watches that I've owned over the past ten years or so, I couldn't believe how many have come and gone. Some no big deal, others, damn what was I thinking when I sold or traded that one? I'm sure nearly everyone here has a story of the "one that got away". Mine are too numerous to list here, but here's one that I had forgotten about. Bought this for a song in '03 or '04 and didn't keep it long - all original Zenith diver c. 1960's, with original Isofrane. Not only is it cool as hell, but I can only imagine what it would go for these days. Let's see yours...

Bought and sold many over the years, however I have very few I regret letting go, if any.
cheers,

As of now, nothing. When I sell something, because it's not out of necessity, I don't have any regrets.

Sure I miss some pieces but it's only momentary.

My problem was that it was a cronic flipper, not money thing.

Thanks Peter. As they say, hindsight is 20/20. Who would have figured the prices that some command now? $5k for a Seiko 6159/6215-7000 300m diver? A Doxa Black Lung on the 'bay with an $8k asking price? Crazy!

Not a dive but regret letting this go every day. I made a decent amount of money but the fact that I will never see another kills me (as a sicura collector)

I've sold quite a few that I miss having, but they would be easy to replace if I really put in the effort to find them.

However, I did sell a mint, Tudor Big Block chronograph with original box, papers, receipt etc before they were "popular". I bought it from the widow of the original owner and he got it as a gift and only wore it on special occasions. That is one I'll probably never be able to afford these days.

Wow. I have never seen those. A small knife built right into a watch. How cool!

It was a weird project that Sicura launched in the 70's. They paired up with Victorinox to provide the blade. Not been able to find out much info as to why they did it but then again who cares :)

Flipped this in 2010 and it's haunted me ever since. Someday, a vintage Doxa will be part of the collection again

Nice one Steve. Be hard to let that one go, but for a Blacklung I can see it.
