New (Old) Aquadive Model 50

Post by mattwool83 » Wed Sep 10, 2014 1:02 pm

This is my first post on DWC so I'll start by saying "hello!" to everyone. I've only recently discovered this forum as I spend most of my time on WUS - enjoying my time here so far as my heart really lies with vintage divers (no real reason as I don't dive or even like the swimming in the sea).

Anyway onto today's arrival that has made me happier than a dog with 2 dicks!

I've been searching for a Model 50 for AGES and I finally managed to track this beauty down. Not only is it a Model 50 it's an elusive Rotary Aquadive model 50. I know it's not in the best condition and is missing its second hand (already trying to track one down) but I don't care! It's awesome and one of the main things I love about vintage watches (divers) are their battle scars. On to the pics!

Hold on! Who's that lurking in some bubble wrap?...

Boom!

It's the Rotary's rough and ready brother (who I manage to land at the same time from the same bloke). Again some would say he's not the best example but don't let him heard you say it! He 'ard and he'll 'av yer! He's been diving and he's had some adventures and he's kicked some ass with his bezel - and what!?

They seem to play well with each other...

I'm not keen on Zulu straps but it's the only one I've got that fits and couldn't resist wearing them. Any suggestions on straps will be appreciated (other than the obvious Isofrane)

Anyway I'm off to perv over them some more. Thanks for looking/reading.

Cheers,

Matt

I love them both, Matt.

A couple of notes:
- Gaskets are few and far between. I worked with the new, rejuvenated Aquadive to see if they have any replacement parts but right now they don't
- The dive gauge port interferes with any thicker watch straps
-- NATOs work. Zulus and thicker nylon/cotton straps won't work
-- Thick rubber straps will rub and wear against the water ingress port
-- Shark mesh stainless straps look GREAT on these watches
-- The replacement cells for the movement (battery essentially replaces the mainspring on the movement) are readily available, but due to a minor difference in voltage you may need a watchmaker to adjust the timing
-- I'd get someone to clean the movements ASAP if you don't have any service records

Best of all, enjoy! The quality in these are great, and they are so good looking.

Thanks for the info bud - really helpful!

I definitely plan on getting a shark mesh for them. I was also thinking about getting them serviced - glad you mentioned that.

First day out with the Rotary:

There was some stealthy speed-posting in order to list something in the sales section.
Not judging.. just sneaky & a bit 'not the DWC way'

Don't really know why I bothered. The sales forum here just seems to be a running commentary rather than an actual sales forum. Don't really know why people can reply to a sales thread.

That's just the way it is here. Free n easy - we comment to save each others asses.
To be honest, you speed-posted in order to list a used watch £200 above what a new one costs. If you don't like it, then fuck off. People like you aren't welcome here, you're just out to rip honest people off. :bird:

Nice watches.

You need thick skin to post here for sure and we have a open thread so any one can reply to any thread. We even raze each other in sale threads because we already know what the watches for sale are worth.

You need to :htfu:
You listed a used Squale Tiger for £650.
Page & Cooper have a brand new one for £420. (plus taxes)
Then moan about the sales corner

So £420 plus taxes takes it to £503. Mine comes with the Squale mesh which cost me an extra £95 - so £598 and I added paypal fess and postage. I didn't know that Jonathan had one left and had dropped his price (I bought mine from him). Once it was pointed out I dropped my price. I've made plenty of deals on WUS and people over there know I'm not out to rip anyone off.

I'm sure everyone on here are grown men that can think for themselves without you babysitting them

I didn't moan about the sales corner because no one wanted to buy my watch I said that I thought it was weird that people could post random replies.

I've heard nothing but good things about you and your straps - God knows why because your manners stink. You're not a prick for wanting to save people money you're a prick for telling someone onto "fuck off" for making a pricing misjudgement.
