Seiko Aged in an Afghan's Armpit

Post by 3cGT » Fri Feb 28, 2014 7:41 pm

I love all these 6139 Seikos. Having admired some cool mods to these 6139 6040s I started following ebay on the hunt. There seems to be no shortage of supply of the 70s Seikos on the subcontinent.

They must have sold a truckload of Siekos in India back in the day. Anyway for appreciators of WABI the crazy finishes and colors after 20plus years of humidity, sweat, steam whatever (I dont really want to know) means you can get a totally unique piece.

Having bought this funky old thing for not too much, lightly polished the case and throwing on an distressed strap I hacked up with sandpaper I quite like what it is and dont think I should mod it after all.

Didn't know that the Afghans wore their watches in their armpits

Watch is cool though :fro:

I dont know into which orifice they insert these things but the result is cool.

The second and subdial hands are not original, should be black but I guess its like an Indian taxi, what ever was required to keep it going gets put in! Ill swap them out but leave the rest.

Cheers :salute:

Better an armpit than where Butch's dad kept his watch: Up his ass...for five years.

Can't stop looking at these pics. If this was a Rolex with this tropical dial add $5,000 to the price.

.... that woud make it about $5250 bucks! Great that seiko made all these well made and interesting pieces that folks without 350 (fictional) watches can now collect and enjoy! Cheers :salute:

Killer 6139.

I just traded into my first 6139 and I'm blown away by the style, the dependability and the price.

Great post.

Love that.
"30ish years of martial arts and I've actually had the honor of training lots of LEO, spec ops and even SEAL team 6 on base, fitness training, not martial arts, but still the coolest thing I've done.

Full on egg head corporate job and I fly quite a bit so I'm really looking forward to adding to my collection of TSA friendly self defense tools. I have amcouple tactical pens, but I want to up the game and get into some custom stuff. Been watch obsessed for a while but this seems more fun.

Thanks for letting me play! "
