Where to find a Aquastar Atoll crystal

Post by macgee » Fri Oct 11, 2013 1:11 pm

Hi,

I'm new to this forum, I own several vintage dive watches and hoping I can get some help locating a new crystal for my Aquastar Atoll.

Does anyone know of a source on where to get one? It's the domed version. Not sure how hard it is to find one but my local watchmaker had no luck.

I appreciate any help.

Thanks

Just keep a eye on fleabay Aquastar crystal some times pop up. Or have a watchmaker buff out the old one if they know what they are doing.

Thnx River rat,

I'll keep an eye out on *Bay, I didn't realize these crystals were so hard to find. The current crystals is too far gone with a lot of deep scratches to buff out.

I'm open to any other leads or advice.

On my Benthos 500 you can tell it was once buffed out and there was some deep scratches once when you look at it at certain angles you can still see a few but you can tell it once looked like yours. I think some one who knows what they are doing can buff it out. Look at mikes certina how he buffed it out before and after.

+1. Start with polywatch. I think you'll be surprised.

Polywatch only works on acrylic crystals mite be glass like my Aquastar 500.

Thanks guys for the responses. My crystal is not glass definitely plastic and yes polywatch will help but I have a lot of deep grooves that go down about 50% + of the thickness, you can feel them and catch your nail on them.

My real hope and desire is to find a replacement crystal as I think this one is too far gone.

Is there no replacement aftermarket cyrstals for this watch?

Thanks

Are these crystals that hard to find?

I tried polishing it with polywatch and it didn't help much with this crystal but not all was lost as I was able to get great results polishing my other watches.

Is there other sites where I can ask where to source a crystal for my Aquastar Atoll? There's been nothing on Ebay for months and hoping someone here was able to help.

Cheers

The way I see it you got two options:

1. Saved search on eBay, could surface tomorrow, could surface in about two years
2. Contact IWW (International Watch Works) and ask them. They make new crystals from scratch for the Benthos 500, maybe Atoll too.

I can't see any difficulty to find a standard diver plexi crystal any watchmaker has.
