Here are some cross sectional pictures of the OS300M. I believe they were promotional pictures that have been floating around on the interwebs for a while. You can see it really is a hunk of metal and if memory serves me correctly, the crystal is also exceptionally thick, although I can't remember the specifics.

Since this diver was released, Orient introduced hacking and handwinding into their mid-tier models. I have thought that this diver should be re-released with this new movement and I think it would offer some serious competition to similar priced offerings from Switzerland.

QC issues are one thing for the high volume entry level models, but there is no excuse for what you received. If this is to be Orient's flagship diver, it should be treated as such. Many customers will only give you one chance. Fortunately most of the forum crowd is forgiving as long as they eventually are taken care of, but the same can't be said for others.

Dude thats cool as hell.

I believe crystal is 5.2mm from what I've read around the interweb. Concerning the movement I've read nothing but good things about it and mine kept perfect time for about 3 days. Hacking and winding is not a concern for me if the movement is as strong and reliable as everything I've read and the little that I've seen. Its opened my eyes a bit in that not every high quality movement necessarily has to hack and wind.

That sucks. That's the second watch I've seen from Orient like that! I've seen pics of a "revolver" around 4 o'clock that looked like the scratches like in your pic, it seems like they grabbed it with a pair of pliers.

I can say this so far: OrientUSA is a bit on the non-chalant side with regards to manufacturing defect returns. Pretty sure I will be taken care of eventually but no one is in a hurry over there for sure.

Hey Chris, really like the new Orient, bro. Sucks about the QC issues, and apparently they are having some CS issues there as well. Here's to you getting that beast back on yer wrist in due time. Always liked this and the black dialed version.

Congrats. That's the second recent one I've seen that had debris under the crystal. Before that, I have never heard of a single QC problem with any on the forums.

Have had mine over 2 years and still like it as much as Day 1. The movement is VERY basic and basically the same as the Mako's with a PR complication, but it works well and is dependable. The suspicion is that Orient uses Seiko's special "L" gasket under the crystal to achieve its 300m Helium safe rating. I took mine apart once to look for what made it different from any other diver and couldn't find anything. I didn't see the "L" gasket, but I also didn't pull the crystal.

My SS Zilla on bracelet is still my heaviest watch.

Good to know GW. I would think the movement would be an upgrade over the Makos just from what I've read and heard about plus the 3.5 days I had mine. Haven't heard of makos keeping that good of time-meaning dead nuts to COSC- although I've heard pretty good things about the mako timekeeping as well. I like the simple lower beat movements-they last forever and are as durable as hell-look at the 6309.

Update-sent watch back to Orient USA last week-they received on Friday. Still have not heard from them other than an email requesting UPS tracking # which I provided. Lack of customer service has prompted me to open a paypal dispute with them  so we'll see how this turns out. Right now OrientUSA customer service is failing big time. I'll keep everyone updated.

OrientUSA should be avoided at all costs. Or at least at the cost of a few extra bucks.

Good luck. The CS issues seem to be hit or miss... and really extreme hits and misses. Its a shame b/c the CS is not representative of the product, but turns a lot of people away.
