School Me on the Citizen Aqualand

Post by CesarG » Tue Apr 23, 2013 2:22 pm

It seems to be a fairly popular watch. At first, it didn't do anything for me but I'm starting to dig it. So, what's the deal? Anyone have any info on them? Some good links to share?

Which Aqualand? I like some of the simpler models.

My brother-in-law has this model:

He has spent enough money getting it fixed that he could have bought a nice watch. He has had it in the shop a few times.

Didn't know there were different models. I'm thinking of the one from the 80s?

CESAR HERE IS A PIC OF MINE, BOUGHT NEW IN 84. IT WAS THE FIRST DIVING LOOKING WATCH I HAD EVER SEEN. HAS A RELIABLE WORKING DEPTH SENSOR AND DIVE TIMER. SPECS AT THE TIME SAID YOU COULD TRUST THE SENSOR TO 400 FEET. I PAID 430 FOR IT NEW AND SPENT 3 TIMES THAT IN SERVICING, YET ILL NEVER TRADE IT. ITS CLASSIC IN THE DOXA AND SUBMARINER WAY. ANY TIME I HAVE IT ON PEOPLE ASK ABOUT IT. SEARCH EBAY YOU CAN FIND ORIGINALS AND REISSUES AT REASONABLE PRICES.

That Aqualand was the first watch that I saw on someone's wrist and it made me want it. I was obsessed with it as a teenager, but sadly never owned one. It did begin my obsession with dive watches though.

My cousin use to own one all I remember was it gave him problems a lot of repairs were he gave up on the watch. So do a search how reliable they are so you don't have a money pit were your watchmaker has it more than you.

If you got to go for one since I sort of remember the vintage one's when new had some problems. You mite go new they still make one that looks like the original so you should have no problems with it and go for one with out all the dam gold a turn off for me here is one on fleabay.

I got one in trade from Bo a while back. I honestly didn't like it. It would have been a cool beater but it didn't do it for me.

I've had a few of the CO22/O23 aqualands. Never had the re-issue. Originals have a caseback held down by like 6 screws and 3 batteries inside. Re-issue's are regular screw down casebacks. Solid watch. Never should have sold them, especially the one I sold Dom with bracelet.

What Steve said...Classic.

I have done the same. Paid around $400 new and have probably spent 3x that keeping alive over the years. It was my first real dive watch. I'll never let it go.

Did some reading and reliability seems to be a big deal. There's one on WUS for $175.

dont know what to tell you on reliability, mine never failed. did my quals with it and deepest dive with it. i will say this dont use it as your only guage. the original paperwork warns about this. in the 26+ years with it anytime i spend alot of time in the water i use it. see my post on citizen service( hurley roberts). always sends print out on water test and mech. condition. if nothing else pick one up for the looks

I've had mine for 26 years. Been running fine- I even flooded it once and dried it out in a tupperware full of desicant. That was 15 years ago. It needs new seals and the movement cleaned up now. Not sure if I want to do all that or just use it as a non-WR watch.

They are solid. What's that model? Really like it, can't afford one, but for future perhaps?
