My brother was in a thrift shop near work that he frequents. Knowing of my interest in watches, he keeps an eye out for anything that might be there.
So today he hands me this. The owner was going to toss it, and gave it to my brother instead . . .

After a little research, it appears that this 6105-8000 was made in June '68. And I really like the piece, but as you can see, it's in pretty rough shape. Several fairly vigorous shakes will induce it to run for 3-5 seconds - that's all. The lume is shot (having been tritium it would be dead by now anyway, but it looks like it's been wet) and the crystal . . . well, you've seen for yourself. Had the back off and the movement looks ok but what the heck do I know? It obviously isn't.
Took it to a local guy who is overhauling my inherited Mido, and asked if it could be saved. He didn't seem all that sure, and I inferred from what he said that it probably would be a hell of an expensive undertaking if he could.
So, in my inexperience, I decided to toss the question out to my fellow forumites and Sexually Desirable RockStar Moderators to see what you all might think.
Is it worth trying to save, and if so, any idea what I should expect to put into it? (or is it time to try and add watchmaking to my list of hobbies, LOL?)
