Here are my collection of montgomery dial railroad watches I think they are the best looking dial on this type of watch. All the brands used them Waltham,Elgin,Howard,Illinois,Hamilton.

Here is a close up of one of them.

See how the seconds are marked with number's that's what make's a montgomery dial. This is a Elgin Veritas 21 jewel,18 size pocket watch.

Nice collection you have there, beautiful watches. With the second hand on a subdial, why do they mark the seconds off around the dial?

The watch my grandfather was issued when he worked on the Soo Line back in the 20s has a Montgomery dial.

Thanks! Both are Hamiltion railroad watches. The 924 is from 1911, the 992 is from the 'teens or '20s. One from each grandfather, who both worked on the railroad. Nice family heirlooms. The 992 movement on the Monty dial one is gorgeous. Still keeps good time too! Sadly, the 924 seems to be missing some parts (a whole bridge??) and does not run.
Amazing the workmanship that came out of Lancaster, PA a hundred years ago!

Really? Wow!! It's one hundred years old then!! Imagine that! I had done a serial number search a long time ago but can't recall where or what my findings were.
Thanks a lot for the info! Maybe pocketwatches will make a comeback. I've actually seen a couple of manufacturers release PWs in the past year. These old American-made ones were like the Pateks of their day.

First time I seen your 992B since you had the crystal replaced.I like how the canadian dials have the military HRS on the dial.
