The class consisted of me having to create two lesson plans from the ground up, create a PowerPoint presentation, a test and then be able administer said test. The first topic was chosen for us, which ended up being "gun safety". The second, which needed to be a 25-35 minute presentation was up to me.
My obvious choice was The History of the Wristwatch. Watch love to the rescue. It was actually a great learning experience for me as I learned many things not known to me prior to me having to create this lesson plan. How many knew a descendent of the wrist watch is something women primarily wore called wristlets? Hmmm... How many knew that the wristwatch helped the British win the Anglo-Boer war by helping the military synchronize attacks? That Rolex was originally Wilsdorf & Davis Ltd?
I passed out "watch" magazines as visual aids and presented a 35 minute PowerPoint presentation on the subject. I was told I rocked it!!!
Regardless, it was great time travel for me and it allows me to know the history of my beloved hobby. Did it all, wearing my recently acquired Marathon JSAR, which to me was a bit ironic, since it represents modern day quartz technology.
I'm now a certified instructor, on police matter that is. I'll leave the watch instruction to professional Horologist.
