Robbers flee with pricey watches from mall store

Armed with a gun and a hammer, robbers stole 18 Rolex watches worth $576,700 from a King of Prussia mall jeweler Wednesday night, police said.
Three men entered Torneau Inc., a fine-watch store, shortly before 9 p.m. and ordered customers to the floor, police said Thursday. One man used a hammer to break the glass that protected the store's most expensive display. The heist took 20 seconds, police said.

Police could not immediately say whether they suspect a link between this robbery and other recent jewelry robberies in the area.

LIMERICK — Two men robbed a jewelry store in the Philadelphia Premium Outlets Monday night, holding two store employees at gunpoint and forcing them to fill garbage bags with diamond jewelry.

Limerick Township Police Chief William Albany said a large amount of jewelry was stolen from the Zales Outlet store during the robbery, but no one was injured.

"This could have very easily had a deadly outcome," Albany said of the robbery. "Thankfully there was no force used against employees" or others.

According to police, two men entered the Zales Outlet store, one a few minutes after the other around 8:27 p.m., a half-hour before the store closed.

One of the men was wearing a green Phillies cap, jeans, and a white and green striped polo shirt, and was described as a black male, possibly having a goatee or beard, possibly wearing glasses and having a thin build.

The other man was described as a black male with a long beard and a thin build and wearing a red Phillies cap, a Nike T-shirt, shorts and Aviator glasses.

One of the men asked an associate to see engagement rings and the other man asked to see tennis bracelets.

The first man asked an associate for an SKU number from one of the engagement rings, and as the store associate went to get the information, the second man pulled out a black handgun, police said.

"Both store associates were directed to fill black trash bags that each of the actors pulled from their pant pockets," according to police.

When both bags were filled, the men told the store associates to go in the back room and then they left "calmly" out the front door toward the parking lot, police said. Among the items the men got away with was a 2-carat diamond engagement ring, several solitaire engagement rings, enhancers, fancy engagement rings, quads, and solitaire engagement rings with side diamonds, police said.

Police noted that this robbery is similar to two other incidents in New Jersey, one at a Kay Jewelers in Cherry Hill, N.J., on March 23, and the other at a Zales Outlet in Jackson, N.J., on June 29.

"I hope this isn't the beginning of a serious problem," Albany said, "because we are expending a significant amount of our police resources at a disproportionately small portion of the township."

He was referring to the number of retail theft and similar incidents his department already responds to at the outlets.

Looking at the average price of these watches, they were probably the ugliest Rollies you could imagine. Torneau should (almost) be happy

LOL......please expand a bit more on that.

You mean to say that you approached the seller requesting to see a Panerai (as in interested and possibly ready to buy it) and the freaking guy had the balls to ask if you were aware of the price that watch went for? As if you were a deadbeat lookalike and the guy thought to himself 'no way this guy has the coin to buy that watch'....man, what a scumbag that seller is.

I've experienced that kind of attitude once or twice.

On one occasion, I requested to see a particular watch and the guy replied back, without even facing me straight: " only if you're gonna buy it for sure ". To that I replied back "well, that's precisely why I want to have a look at it, in the first place. Then I'll be able to make up my mind about it or not ". Then, the seller said it wasn't possible to handle the watch, only staring at it. I said 'ok, thanks for your time!'

I immediately went in the other store accross the mall, requested the very same watch, bought it, and went to size its bracelet at the first store frm the grumpy seller. The watchmaker was the owner. He picked my brand new watch, inspected it upon sizing the bracelet and told me right after giving back the watch to me: "That's a very nice watch and you sir, have good taste. May i ask you where you bought it? 'Cause we have this exact model for sale in here...'

I immediatelly replied (feeling a boner in my pants from the moment): "Well, in fact I came here earlier today to check this watch out, but decided to buy it in the store accross thanks to your asshole seller (pointed out to the grumpy guy)".

Store's owner bluntly said 'beg your pardon?' and I explained what happened to him....

I came back to the mall on the following weekend and checked out the watch stores....guess what: grumpy guy wasn't working there anymore. I came inside the store and chatted with the owner (nice guy, BTW).......at some point I asked him where was grumpy guy and he blurted out 'i fired his stinky and unmannered ass'!! LOL!!

Its simple. 23yrl old male walks into store along with a 50yr old store. Who would you pay attention to? No I didn't intend to buy the watch but did add it to the grail list. Its not like I look like a deadbeat :bananastoner:

Oh, absolutely. The seller never had any business whatsoever to ask if you were aware of the price. Some balls on that dude. That is such a rude attitude. :angryfire:
It doesn't matter if you're ready to lay down the ca$h on them or simply browsing through their inventory while you are digesting your meal after lunch time. A seller has to make you feel like number 1 - always!
That's how they make you breake the little pig safe to freed up the coins and pay for the watch, in the first place.
