Marathon SAR Re-release?

Post by namor » Sat Aug 31, 2024 7:57 am

From the looks of this, it appears Marathon is going to do an LE of the original SAR with ladder hands.

I’d consider one!

Is it just me or does the lime pip look too far from the hour markers? The dial must be very small in relation to the bezel. I guess we’ll find out on the 24th.

Either that or they have minute/second markers around the lumed markers or a Minute Chapter Ring like Seiko Divers...

If you look at the current GSAR/TSAR it’s the same, with smaller dial and the chapter ring appearing angled to the larger crystal. Not an issue.

The lack of reflection on that chapter ring in the announcement photo makes me wonder if it will be DLC with black chapter ring.

If no cyclops I’ll probably consider one too, but in my perfect world they would offer it later as a no-date.

I’d also like to the steel Navigator offered with a Miraglow dial instead of tritium.

I'm still kicking myself in the nuts for not buying one of the OGs when they were readily available.

The GSAR is already $1500 on strap and $1800 on bracelet, so I’m guessing the new Miraglo ones will be $1700/$2000.

Geez… that sucks. I’ve had my TSAR for 6 years. Great watch - but I wouldn’t rate it as a $1200 quartz.

I feel the same way. Remember when I could've bought a SAR-D for a song.

So the only differences between GSAR and SAR are tritium tube dial and hands, right?

The original was the SAR, which used the ETA 2824, had superuminova dial & ladder hands, date at 3 w/cyclops.

GSAR changes included tritium tube dial & handset, date at 4:30, no cyclops. Initial GSAR I believe carried on the 2824, but have since changed to Sellita movement.

Likely this “coming soon” release will return to original dial style, but probably with their enhanced version of super luminova they call “MaraGlo”. Unknown further details at this point.

I like marathon but like you say I’m not paying some of the money they want for their new watches. If anyone’s interested in an arctic TSAR…Image

Marathon SAR Re-release?

Post by hoppyjr » Mon Sep 23, 2024 4:33 pm

Looks like they will call it the “OSAR-D” with the “D” being for date, like the SSNav-D is the date model and the SSNav is no date. I hope this means we’ll see a no-date SAR!

Damn Tapatalk won’t let me post pic

It doesn’t look dry. You can probably just wipe it off.

Oh - you were talking about the cyclops. My bad.

Maybe it’s just a bad photo, but those lume plots look very bad.
