Anonimo Hex Screw Springbar Question

Post by stumpy1972 » Thu Jun 20, 2024 2:02 pm

Just picked up my first Anonimo, a used Militare. The lower spring bar has 2 hex head screws.  I've got a big wrist and would like to put a longer custom strap on it.  I have done the 2 screwdriver thing with a case holder but where does one find the 2 hex tools to remove this spring bar? Any idea on the size of the hex?  Looks like 1mm or ive heard .98mm???.  Wish they would have included the tools with the watch.  Any help would be appreciated. If you happen to have the 2 hex screwdrivers I'd gladly buy or rent them from you. Just need to get it out and will replace with a seiko fat springboard. Thanks.

I believe its .98mm hex which is almost impossible to find. Some Hobby RC places used to carry it but I havent seen them in years. Maybe buy 1mm and file it down slowly.

Shoot Eric a PM. He used to have a boatload of Anonimos (Anonimi?) I think he may still have a few.

If you get truly stuck, you might try a T2 torx bit to see if it can grab the flats of the bolt. A T2 is .93mm point to point.

You are correct about .98mm hex being an odd-ball size. I even looked at watch making tools on Esslinger and found nothing that exact size.

Why any brand would do this is beyond me. I'm surprised they found someone to make a custom sized screw when they could have sourced a T2 torx or 1mm hex off-the-shelf and readily available.

Couldn't agree more. Thanks for the input!

.02 mm.... you'd think a 1mm would work. Unless I've screws are like tool and die tolerances... Thanks for your thoughts?

It's been quite some time since I've posted on DWC. Who is Eric? I'll use old foggy fat guy brain as my excuse :)

Just to add, Wiha tools has hex drivers available in .9mm and 1mm for about $5 each.

Option "B" is to grab a few to see if you can make it work.

The 1mm gently filed down may be the way to go. My concern is keeping the flats flat on something that small....
