Just so easy to wear and flies under the radar but still has a lot of vintage Sub in it. Met a coworker with a blue last week. I prefer the black but the blue is very cool.

My choice will be revealed soon.
Was hoping to have put a pic of it up by now but the deal isn't quite done

It's not as if you haven't seen one before but this is all very exciting for me
Got the deal done and here are the sellers pics. Most important to me is that it had the bracelet and in this case the bracelet has never been used, so bonus Vanguard rubber strap.

So what's the chances I'll need one of those Uncle Seiko half links I've been reading about?

Great stuff! Congrats
Re: How can choosing a watch be so hard.
You could get the half link if needed and also the steel-reef.com on the fly extension link I think Ed did a review of this extension link.snootydog wrote: ↑Wed Sep 13, 2023 2:58 amIt's not as if you haven't seen one before but this is all very exciting for me![]()

I’d add the SteelReef easy link first, then the Uncle half link if needed. No way to know until you see how it fits.

Re: How can choosing a watch be so hard.
I'd never heard of the Steel Reef link until now. I've just had a look and it's impressive but at £97 I think I'll try the Uncle Seiko at £24 first
Hopefully I won't need either.
In theory this is supposed to be the last watch I ever buy
Not sure when it'll arrive because EBay UK have a new rule where any watch over £1500 has to be sent to an authenticator first and that firm send it on to me with an authentication certificate.

I think this is something eBay has launched globally, at least with watches and shoes. I think it’s actually a great service. While a little inconvenient, they seem to do a great job, and everyone has more peace of mind.snootydog wrote:I'd never heard of the Steel Reef link until now. Re: How can choosing a watch be so hard.
It's a great service, taking away the worry of buying a fake. They even compare the description and photographs so if there's a dent or scratch the seller didn't mention, you get full refund and this service is free to both the seller and buyer. There was one BB58 on there for collection only (so escapes the authentication rule) and his excuse was he'd lost stuff in the mail before so didn't trust the post. Very dubious and one I steered clear of.matt.wu wrote: ↑Wed Sep 13, 2023 12:09 pmI think this is something eBay has launched globally, at least with watches and shoes. Congrats! I found the rubber strap very comfortable and really helps hold the watch in place vs some flopping with bracelets.

Re: How can choosing a watch be so hard.
Wish I had an AD nearby to see the blue BB58 in person. In some pics it looks pretty dark, which I like, and sometimes it’s very blue. Either way, congratulations on your “last” watch!
If you put a large switch in some cave somewhere, with a sign on it saying 'End-of-the-World Switch. PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH', the paint wouldn't even have time to dry.

Re: How can choosing a watch be so hard.
Well, I'm absolutely gutted.
The watch had been posted to the eBay authenticator. Then today I get a message from the seller, he's really sorry but he's cancelled the sale because he's in dispute about the final valuation fees that they are charging him.
Oh well, back to square one.

Sorry to hear the bad news, but these seem readily available, so maybe you can source another? Your AD doesn’t have any stock?snootydog wrote:Well, I'm absolutely gutted.

Re: How can choosing a watch be so hard.
Yes my local AD has one and even offered discount but £3000 isn't the sort of money I'm prepared to spend on a watch.
There are others on eBay so I'm sure I'll get one at the right price for a two or three year old one.
Some that are on the rubber or leather strap are definitely within budget but not so many with the bracelet.
What are the general thoughts on the BB58 bracelet from Uncle Seiko?
Re: How can choosing a watch be so hard.
I think the Forstner bracelets are better quality that Uncle Seiko, plus Forstner uses screw links and a better clasp. They even make an Oyster with an stretchy/expandable link for comfort.snootydog wrote:Yes my local AD has one and even offered discount but £3000 isn't the sort of money I'm prepared to spend on a watch.

Are you following WatchRecon and if the forum sellers too?
Our own Peter (Terpits) has one he was looking to sell a while back.

I sold my BB58 on WUS for $2350 net a couple months ago (it had a small scratch on the crystal).
Be patient and you will find one. Anything less than perfect sells for a steep discount these days
