MM300 or Monta OCEANKING?

Post by deepcdvr » Sun Aug 06, 2023 7:46 am

I know this is very WUS’ish, but I’ve saved up a bit and can afford one of these two. I’ve “rented” 3 or 4 MM’s over the years and love the watch, but lately the Oceanking has been creeping into my brain locker…

Thoughts?

Never had a Monta but they do certainly look nice.

This gets my vote if you don’t mind the size, which I don’t. It just works for what this watch is, a chunky diver.

And no, it’s not available for rent yet…I think

You've owned the MM a few times already. Try out the Monta next.

Facts, the Monta is easier to wear, better bracelet, and more accurate. But I love the dial on the MM.

The MM300 is, as you know, a classic.
It’s also thick & heavy, which is why they never stick for me.

The Monta is like wearing a 5-digit Rolex Submariner (in size) with a killer bracelet and micro adjust clasp. Terry’s is a screaming deal and would be an ideal beater. Do it.

Hey Paul! From the stats of the Monta, I would think it would fit your wrist much better than the MM300. And since you’ve already “rented” the MM several times, maybe it’s time to try out the Monta?
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Not one of your options, but this wears very well.

I’ve looked at Terry’s MANY times haha. Love the 12 hour bezel…if I were not in a watch hold and did not have my SD…would like to give this one a try. I too have had many MM300’s and though I really like the look…alas too big for my wrist. The Monta just looks incredible. Good luck Paul in your decision.

I've had the MM300 twice; always wished it was slimmer.

I can't see moving this out.

My vote would be MM300. Mostly because I can’t see upmarket/expensive micros. I’m sure the Monta is a very good watch, but this is just how my head is wired.
If you put a large switch in some cave somewhere, with a sign on it saying 'End-of-the-World Switch. PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH', the paint wouldn't even have time to dry.

I’m going to also add a vote for the Monta side Paul, only because
you have tried the MM300 a couple times. ;) AND you seem to want
to try something different. So I say go with your heart. :)

Thank you for even asking for our thoughts on this and good luck !!!

Monta. It’s a unique and beautiful piece that wears like a dream. You WILL NOT bump into someone with a GMT bezel, and if you do you can buy each other a beer knowing that you 40% of the total OK with GMT bezels made at the table.

MM300 for sure..Pair that with the crafter blue fitted rubber strap, imo opinion of course, and you have the comfort of a daily wearer.

I'm going to second (or third or forth) Matt's suggestion.

I'm guessing you have to document activities in UTC anyway, so the GMT function might actually be of benefit for you.

FWIW, it is either this watch or a new set of Ping irons (equally torn) for me.

Still researching, although I don’t golf so no drama there ;)
