Re: New Grand Seiko Diver
These are gorgeous.
Re: New Grand Seiko Diver
looks like ocean water. love it
Re: New Grand Seiko Diver
Whoa, I didn't see this one Derek !
Yowza, Seiko never ceases to amaze right?!
Talk about you wonderful wave pattern
dials, this takes things to a different level imho. And then you have all of the bells and
whistles throughout the entire watch too at the end of the day.
Astounding stuff sir, thanks a bunch for the report !!!

Drilled lugs!
The whole thing is amazing, but count me in the "the power reserve on the dial sucks" camp.
Luckily it'll probably be too big and definitely too expensive for me to worry about it much

Re: New Grand Seiko Diver
Make it at least 2mm smaller and this would be a problem for me
Re: New Grand Seiko Diver
With the 5 day power reserve on the 9RA5, perhapos having the power reserve indicator on the dial is not neccesary, but I like being able to tell at a glance how much juice I've got.
I also see a lot of comments about how so many more people would be interested in these GS divers if they were smaller., 43.8mm is a pretty big case size for sure, but it's comfortable on my 7.6ish" wrist.
GS is definitely working on getting the spring drive movement smaller specifically to be able to shrink their divers, so hopefully they will come out with a smaller diver in the next few years for all you small-wristed folks!

Re: New Grand Seiko Diver
I like having a power reserve indication and that dial is one of the best I have seen on any watch.
Re: New Grand Seiko Diver
Love the dial but case to big for me..
Re: New Grand Seiko Diver
My wrist is almost exactly 7 inches and I can wear a 44mm with certain case characteristics, such as a cushion design.
Then again, even 42mm watches with large dial openings and thin bezels just look huge on my wrist.
I’m hopeful Seiko designers used some styling tricks to make this large watch more “wearable” and not visually huge on the wrist.
Then again, that dial is pretty cool and maybe the size is worth wearing a bit of art on the wrist.

Re: New Grand Seiko Diver
The dial kinda reminds me of the “glacier” dial on my STO ‘65 reissue, just turned 90°.
Excuse the sunblock smudges- the dial best shows this design in bright sun.You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

For comparison, this is mine. Exact same watch except black instead of blue. Again my wrist is ~7.65”Ryeguy wrote: ↑Wed Mar 29, 2023 5:21 amMy wrist is almost exactly 7 inches and I can wear a 44mm with certain case characteristics, such as a cushion design.

That looks good. Your wrist is a bit thicker than mine, but I would still wear that watch.ezcheese wrote: ↑Wed Mar 29, 2023 9:46 amFor comparison, this is mine. As an aside, when discussing watch sizes and necessary versus unnecessary diameter, I always look at the date location on the dial.
When the date is right out at the edge near the chapter ring, I figure the watch case is about the minimum size it can be (assuming the watch movement has the date ring at the outer edge of the movement itself which is typically the case).
I've seen a number of large watches where the date window is well inside a large dial marker and you can realize how small the movement is relative to the case size.
For example:

This Orient Star has a lot of potential for down sizing if they wanted to shave a few MM off of that case.

I never really thought about that, but it makes total sense!Ryeguy wrote: ↑Wed Mar 29, 2023 11:25 amThat looks good.
