How long do they take to complete the repairs? This is extremely nice, might compete with my Willard for the “green watch” spot.

Man, that stinks. I don’t know if I’m just lucky, but the 6r35 in my SPB whatever 65 reissue has been a very solid performer.toxicavenger wrote: ↑Thu Mar 09, 2023 6:00 pmi am now at 3 out of 5 6r35's having to go back to seiko for repairs.sierra11b wrote: ↑Thu Mar 09, 2023 5:54 pmI've owned a few of the new ones. I do tend to wear it consistently though, so it never drops too much in power reserve (where I normally would expect to see a loss in accuracy).
I’m kinda wondering if some of these 6r35 issues are due to over oiling during manufacture. I had a Soprod A10 that had horrible performance due to this.
As an aside, aren’t these new MM200 GMT’s using the same movement as the SKX style GMT’s? I haven’t heard of any issues with those watches.
Re: New Seiko Thread
When Jack was servicing my 6R15 Sumo some years back he indicated that there wasn’t enough oil from factory and they’re basically built to fail from the start.Ryeguy wrote: I’m kinda wondering if some of these 6r35 issues are due to over oiling during manufacture. He oiled the movement, serviced it, and it was still a shitter.

From what I’ve heard, an under oiled movement will work, but fail early. This is the case of many low cost Chinese movements. An over oiled movement will exhibit issues almost immediately. My Soprod A10 never ran correctly (would stop overnight despite being fully wound).r.palace wrote: ↑Fri Mar 10, 2023 8:48 amWhen Jack was servicing my 6R15 Sumo some years back he indicated that there wasn’t enough oil from factory and they’re basically built to fail from the start.Ryeguy wrote: I’m kinda wondering if some of these 6r35 issues are due to over oiling during manufacture. My guess is most movements are OK, but some tolerance stack in the right direction and are better than OK, and other’s tolerance stack in the wrong direction and are just crap performers.
Seiko needs to do a better job of weeding out those crap examples before they hit the street.
Re: New Seiko Thread
I’ve had great 6r’s and complete crap ones out of the 15 or so I’ve owned. Luck of the draw. It’s enough to keep me away from that movement now, which is unfortunate because Seiko would absolutely destroy that price segment with a quality movement (and putting a bezel on properly).

My only experience with Seiko USA Service Center was when I sent in a 6R that died the first week of March 2020. Then we all know what happened in the world. They had it back to me two months later. I know a while back Spencer Klein had some video's saying he knew what the issue was with the 6r's but he came back and recanted his statement. What is crazy is the 6r replacements the NE15's are perfect right out of the box.Ryeguy wrote: ↑Fri Mar 10, 2023 2:44 pmFrom what I’ve heard, an under oiled movement will work, but fail early. Me personally i think there are multiple issues with the 6r's, and unless you have a bunch of spare parts there is no one fix.
I also had the Soprod issues. But once Todd had them fixed they ran as good as my Planet Ocean.

My Soprod issue was with my OWC. Dan (Daz actually) stripped it, cleaned it, then oiled it properly. It ran perfectly after that.toxicavenger wrote: ↑Fri Mar 10, 2023 5:09 pmI know a while back Spencer Klein had some video's saying he knew what the issue was with the 6r's but he came back and recanted his statement. Unfortunately for me, it took two trips from NH to Australia to figure out what was wrong.
As for the 6r issues, I’ve still got to think it is a tolerance stacking issue.
I mean mechanical watch movements are nothing new and Seiko has been designing and making them for ages. I don’t think they would make a fundamental design flaw.
Given the mixed bag of reports (some run great, some are a shit show) and that a talented watch maker was not able to pinpoint any specific design defect, my guess is Seiko allowed designers / quality engineers to include a wee bit more acceptable tolerance in various key components (probably as a cost savings measure).
If you happen to get a movement assembled using a significant number of “barely in tolerance” components, it’ll be a shit show. If you happen to get one built tight, you’ll get better than advertised performance.
I have no idea why the NH’s seem to run better than the 6r’s as they are the same design. My only guess is the NH’s might be manufactured in different factories who have retained the old acceptable tolerance standards.

Anyone have time to see the Seiko 5 Sports 55th Anniversary Masked
Rider L.E.?
The watch pays tribute to the classic Japanese show Kamen Rider with
details like 42.5mm stainless steel case, rotating bezel with sleek steel
insert, cool textured dark green dial, nice black leather strap, the Calibre
4R36 and more.
Just a few pictures...

Monochrome and Seiko with a lot more too...

That’s not a bad price, all things considered. What hurts it for me is that it’s a “caller” GMT, with quick set 24 hour hand. If you put a large switch in some cave somewhere, with a sign on it saying 'End-of-the-World Switch. PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH', the paint wouldn't even have time to dry.

Not sure if everyone saw the new Seiko 5 Sports SKX 38MM Collection.
These watches have 38mm cases, unidirectional rotating bezel with
metallic inserts, black, cream, mint green, and orange dials, stainless
steel bracelets, and the Calibre 4R36 is right beneath powering things.
Some pics for you...
