New Seiko Thread
Re: New Seiko Thread
Although i do want to try one eventually, the date placement seems wrong for a diver and bothers me some.

^I like the SLA, but not enough to pay over $3K for it. It would be nice to someday have an 8L35 in something a bit smaller than my MM300.

Re: New Seiko Thread
I snagged one of these today. Will go and pick it up tomorrow. Friend owns a store that sells Seiko for a few more weeks (he sold the store) so I still can snag some watches at 40% off MSRP. He hasn't been getting many shipments from Seiko lately so I didn't think anything else would show up at the store before it changed hands. Was glad to snag one of these as I figured he wouldn't be getting of these limited editions.spring-diver wrote: ↑Thu Dec 15, 2022 6:05 pmComing next month

Re: New Seiko Thread
If they did 8L35 in the 055/057 case in standard SS, got rid of the date (or did it like in the slim Willard, which I’m great IMO), and priced it around the current MM300 level it would be close to the perfect Seiko.jswing wrote:^I like the SLA, but not enough to pay over $3K for it. not my cuppa, but the 62mas bezel is one of the best bezels ever produced by Seiko IMHO.

Re: New Seiko Thread
They had the SLA065 at the shop this weekend. I'm not sure I love it. Bigger case than the re-issues, lume plots look a bit cheap. It's the same price as an SLA023 which seems better finished. Like the dial on this blacked out version though
Re: New Seiko Thread
I like everything about this one except that it comes on a nylon strap, which is easily rectified. Well, that and the pricespring-diver wrote: ↑Sun Feb 05, 2023 6:34 pmSLA067

Re: New Seiko Thread
Picked up the SPB333 today. I haven't even unpacked mine yet but my friend was wearing his and I had a chance to play around with it. A few thoughts:
- Great size for those with smaller wrists. Reminds of an old Submariner with the way it wears
- Bracelet is nice quality. Maybe one of the better Seiko bracelets I've ever had on a dive watch
- The nato it comes with is very high quality. It's woven and feels very premium to the $20 nato straps I've owned in the past. Apparently these are not cheap from the dealer. About $180 CAD
- Bezel action is great
- Crown threading is very smooth
- No chapter ring to be misaligned
- Only thing I don't like is the date at 4pm. Seems like an afterthought with the circular cutout and no window. Would have preferred no date at all
- Box and packaging it typical cardboard box for this Seiko price point. Similar to the MM300 box but white instead of black. Kinda cheap for a $1,700 CAD watch
- The dial is definitely silver. I've seen the Willard version of this dial and that one was more of a white/silver but this looks much more silver. Legibility is great.
Overall, it's a really nice watch and wears really well. The date kinda kills it for me. I might just toss this one up for sale without even taking the stickers off but I'll decide this week. If I list it here I'll sell for the 40% off that I paid for it($1,100 CAD). If this didn't have the date at 4 in a circle, it would be a different story for me.

That dial looks great and the strap will be very high quality. Much different than any other nato that sells for $20. Wonder how the black PVD would hold up over time?spring-diver wrote: ↑Sun Feb 05, 2023 6:34 pmSLA067

I'm stoked about the new Sumo Solar GMT, not necessarily because of the watches themselves (too big for me), but the potential for that movement in other stuff...

Re: New Seiko Thread
Personal opinion, but I think these new STO limited edition Seiko's are some of the best sub $1K watches on the market today bar none.Mr_Pacman wrote: ↑Mon Feb 06, 2023 5:35 pmPicked up the SPB333 today. My "glacier" dial SBDC165 has become a favorite of my collection.
