New Seiko Thread
Re: New Seiko Thread
Did you preorder from a local AD or is a site taking orders?
Re: New Seiko Thread
Fak! That gold one is sweet too.
Too bad I’m pissing away hundreds at the pump currently.

My local AD.
Shannon - do you happen to know if there's a JDM version, and if so the model # of the black on rubber?

Re: New Seiko Thread
I just can’t get in to cheap watches. It effectively costs the same to service a $900 seiko with crap factory regulation as it does my Sea Dweller and I enjoy wearing the SD a lot more. I have my tuna as a cheap fun quartz. That’s really all I need.Seppia wrote: ↑Wed Jun 08, 2022 1:29 pmSeiko being Seiko, they always find a way to fuck up, in this case the black one is only available on rubber, which would be ok (I think it fits the style of the watch) but of course it will have the shit metal keeper that flops around (because it has no grip) and always has the strap come out of it.
Can fix with an aftermarket strap but "fixing" a seiko was ok when they were $300, now that decent models start at 1k less so

Re: New Seiko Thread
I doubt i wear my Tuna much more than once a week. It’s a rare setting where I’m doing something rough enough that I won’t wear a good watch AND I need a watch. Basically only when I’m doing water stuff and don’t have access to my phone.Seppia wrote: ↑Wed Jun 08, 2022 2:30 pmI have a few slots for cheap watches.
Two are permanently filled by a square gshock and a protrek that I use when I diving, hiking, or going somewhere dodgy.
The third spot is for flipping.
I know if I get one of these, it won’t last more than 12 months but I’ll enjoy it occasionally even if it isn’t going to stick.
I like Tunas but they always feel too big on my wrist and never wear them more than a day. I kept the solar tuna because of a personal reason but I almost never wear it
On edit: sometimes I think about getting a Datejust-like GS quartz but somehow I’ve never done it.

I’m waiting for a 3186 polar E2 to drop a grand in value and I’ll buy one. Meanwhile I’ve been looking for a good 114270 and I haven’t seen a single one.Seppia wrote: ↑Wed Jun 08, 2022 3:58 pmThe clasp sucks. The only watch I enjoy wearing as much as my trifecta 14060m-16570-114270 is the BB58.
It’s one of those that once they’re on the wrist they somehow never come off.

Re: New Seiko Thread
Thanks very much. I couldn't find one googling but I'd be surprised if there wasn't one. I just usually have earlier access to JDM than the US, and my Japanese AD always needs a model # to reserve. Not that I'm anxious for these or anything.

Seiko’s site doesn’t have the black dial/ silicone strap up yet. Here’s the white dial and gold versions
I’m guessing SBDC175 for the black dial/silicone strap combo

Re: New Seiko Thread
Hopefully we can get 20% off the $132,000 JPY MSRP. That’ll be $105,600 JPY. With the weak JPY that adds up to $786 USD maybe throw in another $50 for speedy shipping

Re: New Seiko Thread
Thanks Shannon. I'll keep an eye on the site until I determine the # for the black on strap and then order from my Japan AD. I've already pre-ordered one in the US, but as you said, with the weak JPY that may be the way to go, especially if it arrives in Japan first.

It costs $1000+ to service a 6r seiko?JP Chestnut wrote: ↑Wed Jun 08, 2022 1:51 pmI just can’t get in to cheap watches. Re: New Seiko Thread
What Rolex besides maybe a Daytona or delicate vintage costs a grand to service? None. Seeing how my SD is over 10 years old and has incurred exactly $0 service costs, I think you'd be extremely lucky if the 6r isn't more expensive long term. Of course, nobody on here owns watches like that for more than five minutes.sierra11b wrote: ↑Fri Jun 10, 2022 7:26 pmIt costs $1000+ to service a 6r seiko?JP Chestnut wrote: ↑Wed Jun 08, 2022 1:51 pmI just can’t get in to cheap watches. Never mind
Re: New Seiko Thread
Eyeing that white dial (in competition with an SPB143) as a summer beater.
Re: New Seiko Thread
White dial pre-order is cheap on Sakura right now. And so is the SPB143.
Re: New Seiko Thread
Seiko lists $260 as their service cost on a 6r. Rolex lists around $800 for their service cost on a typical 3 handed. No way long term costs on a Seiko will be more…not sure where you would come up with this. You can ignore service intervals on the Seiko for just as long as on a Rolex as they are just as robust…. The Rolex will just be more accurate.. while the 6r’s will just chug along in perpetuity with the same level of inaccuracy as when new.JP Chestnut wrote: ↑Fri Jun 10, 2022 9:26 pmWhat Rolex besides maybe a Daytona or delicate vintage costs a grand to service? Re: New Seiko Thread
An Indy Rolex place will do it for less than $500. To me, $260 and $500 are effectively equivalent— assuming that the 6r actually is as robust as the Rolex 30xx (which can’t honestly be claimed given that the 6r was introduced decades after the Rolex movement).dnslater wrote: ↑Sat Jun 11, 2022 7:12 amSeiko lists $260 as their service cost on a 6r. Any BOD who has an unserviced 6r from 2006 should speak up. I’d like to hear how it compared to my unserviced GMT2 from 2004.

It still runs great, though I have to admit I only wear it a few times per year.
When the time comes, it will not be serviced; I'll just swap the movement. I don't think it makes sense to service a Seiko with anything less than an 8L35 inside.

Re: New Seiko Thread
I've had that same thought. I have a SARB033 which was the slightly updated version of this watch I've had for 6 years now and I don't know if I'd bother trying to service either. I'd think swapping the movement, but swapping the rotor over to the new movement would be the move, since it is a display back.Selym wrote: ↑Sat Jun 11, 2022 10:16 amI bought the Spirit on the right in October '06JP Chestnut wrote: ↑Sat Jun 11, 2022 7:47 amAny BOD who has an unserviced 6r from 2006 should speak up.
