I'm considering pulling the plug and waiting here like everyone else until they become available for less.

I didn't realize they were in the US yet. You're right though, the only reason to pay full msrp is to get it early, at least on a non- limited watch.

Yep. I verified it with three people on WUS who utilized US ADs. One even got a discount but they were sold out. Australia seems to have gotten it a few weeks ago and UK a couple weeks ago.

I saw the ones from UK and Australia but once mine fell through I sort of put it out of my mind for now.

Topper does a lot of Seiko business, so I doubt they’re getting snubbed. I’d guess other ADs aren’t getting a ton either, and WatchRecon seems to validate this. My guess is that Rob would be more than happy to be transparent about his understanding of expected lead time or current status. He’s always been a straight shooter with me.

I talked with Rob just now.
He seems to think they got stiffed on allotment and will call me tomorrow if the person ahead of me doesn’t want the watch anymore. He mentioned never getting stiffed before, and of course it was my first pre-order in my near two decades of watches.
If the other guy wants the watch I’ll pull my deposit and either wait or take my business elsewhere.

I miss the days when mid-range Seikos were $300, and not $1200.

Me too.
But I will say my SPB117 has been worth the price. It’s level of finish and QC seems to be above what I remember with the SARB017. Granted it’s not $1200 but it’s still double the price of the SARB017.
Timing has been about +4sec day and it hasn’t come off my wrist in weeks. I hope the 6Rwillard meets my expectations.

Is 6Rwillard what they’ve christened this?? That’s not great.

No. I just made it up for the sake of this thread.
I agree it sucks. Thought typing ‘will6rd’ but seems too needy. Seems both this and the SLA033 are both “Willard” and therefore confusing.

Yup. I'd be in for $600 - $700, but not $1200.

Hahaha fair enough. I’m good with the model number.

No secret I'm all in on Seiko. However, considering Naft's cost less than $300, or most of mine did, there's just no way the new SPB143, SPB151 and similar models are worth 3-4 times the price.
I like them a lot, but I'll never pay close to current asking prices with anything with a 6r based movement.

That’s the problem with Seiko making watches from 50$ to 10,000$
Automotive industry has succeeded with braking thorough that mental barrier by making luxury divisions or Toyota, Honda, Nissan, etc in order to charge more for premium product. However Seiko attempts with Grand Seiko its not as successful with veiling our eyes. I mean it’s like Toyota all of the sudden would roll out a $90K Corolla- tyat would be hard to sell
Edit: for the record I did buy $3500 62mas reissue but I do understand the hesitation

Thx. It’s definitely a nice OD green.
The silicon strap wears very well and is one of the best looking I’ve seen from Seiko recently.

They keep creeping up for sure. $500 and under Seikos are what brought me into the hobby in the first place. The NAFT is perfect in this regard. The only Seiko that truly appeals to me above that is the Tuna, which I’ll likely eventually buy again. Now unfortunately isn’t the best time. I’ll always have the SARB033. I probably should grab a SKX007 again before they become impossible to get new. Beyond that most of the popular watches are either too big or more than I want to pay. I’d find the Sumo perfect around a few mm smaller. Not sure why the other 6R15 divers(62Mas and MM200) never really appealed to me, but they seem to be at a decent price point.

Yep, I'm sold. Talked to my local AD she's got one on order coming in soon and will let me know when it arrives and I'll get it
