Interesting to see how closely the case resembles the turtle reissue except for the crown guards. I like it but not for $1,300-$1,400.

I watched it and thought maybe I should start doing reviews of things I’ve never handled. Guy doesn’t say one positive thing about the watch whatsoever making me think he must be a joy to hang out with in person.

I have a tropic waiting for mine and plan to add a tire tread as well. I doubt I'll ever wear it on the bracelet.

There's only one 6105. Production ceased in 1976/77. All others are just copies and re-issues. IMO if you're going to spend the money, get the real deal. Plus, a 6105 is Not A Fuckin' Turtle.

I already have an Uncle Seiko tropic strap, but plan to add an Uncle Seiko tire tread. The original Seiko tire tread was OEM for the 6105 for a few years and was my favorite strap for my 6105 when I had it. It doesn't taper like most vintage straps so it feels a bit more substantial.

While I don't disagree with that, I personally don't like wearing vintage watches. I like vintage style, but prefer not having to worry if my watch gets wet, will it break down and need parts I can't find, etc. Not to mention the minefield that is buying a vintage watch. Vintage reissues are my favorite watches, so I guess I'm the target market. I think we can all agree that the 6105 is not a fucking turtle.

The premium of 6105s today just isn’t worth the headache and by the time you vet the watch and seller it’s already sold. NOW if someone here sold one I would seriously consider.

I’d love to get into a birthyear 6309-7040 as they still can be had for <$600. I’ve been searching for awhile but it’s the same story with the 6105s in that you need to be quick.

I bought a 6105 before the prices went nuts. Then I sent it for a service and relume. Got it back after about a year, then didn't want to wear it because it still wasn't water resistant. I love the idea of vintage, but just don't feel comfortable actually wearing them. Had a few near perfect 6309s too. I find myself still looking at them sometimes, but as you said, if they're decent they disappear fast.

Ten, twelve years ago you could buy a nice 6105 for $300-$400 all day long. Of course, as all things, prices change and nothing stays the same. Indicative of the vintage market as a whole.

I prefer the black dial, but wouldn’t care for the bracelet. I’m sure this would be a great NATO watch. ISOfrane would look great too.

Same story as “I should have sold my Rolex, it’s now worth 2x or 3x.” I bought and sold a small handful of 6309-7040 about ten years ago. Bought at around $130 for modding and sold at closer to $200 within a year, untouched. And now they are worth 2x or 3x . What amazes me though is how this “old” movement starts up as soon as you pick up the watch, while newer watches need to turned a few times.

The 6309 is almost the perfect Seiko. Great design and great movement. You're right, I remember when nice ones were going for $125 or so. I used to sell a lot of them. Not anymore. Once bought a nice example from the original owner complete with original boxes and papers for $150. Now, even jacked up ones in crappy condition, or with aftermarket parts are going for $300. to $500. or more. Shame.

classic. Every variation just seems to work perfectly, and have a cool vibe !
