Future Omega

Post by Zidane » Sun Dec 05, 2010 7:23 pm

So...with all of this news about the FAD no longer being an AD at all and that Omega plans on only having boutiques in the future (i.e. discounts highly unlikely), what is that going to do to your purchase decisions?

Take the PO for instance. Current MSRP of $3,650 (correct me if I'm wrong).
In all likelihood, next year it'll have the updated 2500 (D?) movement and a ceramic bezel. I'm guessing the price moves up at least $1k to ~$4,650. That's pure speculation but it's a fact that Omega is moving more upmarket.

Would you still pay that much for a PO (or any Omega) given that 30% discounts will be unlikely or will you rely on the pre-owned/gray market outlets...or will you just focus on other watches?

Oh really, he's not? Does that mean he's discounting what he has left?

I knew Omega was trying to move to only boutiques, but didn't realize they were doing it this rapidly. If the FAD is getting rid of stock, now might be the best time to get what you want while the gettin's good.

I don't think I'd pay over $3600 for my PO. I love the watch, and while it is a great timekeeper, push come to shove, I'd be hard pressed to do so. Definitely a big NO for another $1500 ceramic bezel. If i already had a ceramic bezel, it would be toast by now. Can you imagine that repair? Omega is trying to hard to compete with Rolex, imo. What exactly is Omega going to do to the 2500 movement? I know they said "updated" - anybody know what that entails?

Since i've already got the PO, I might just have to hang on to it. ;)

I originally thought the ceramic bezel was cool, then I saw it in person. It DOES NOT look better than the regular bezel, in fact if you picked up a normal PO with a cermic bezel, you probably wouldn't even notice it if no one told you. It is nothing like the Rolex ceramic bezel.

The new 2500 will have the silicon hairspring. Still no official word on whether or not there will be an 8500 powered PO...

As far as the discounting goes, I don't think there's any "extra" discounting being done by the "FAD".

Double damn. Add another one if Omega decides not to put the 8500 in any of the POs in years to come. :tap:

I've always purchased preowned, so this won't change any of my purchase decisions really. I would assume eventually preowned prices will go up too, but not for a while. This is really one of those wait and see type of deals. Who knows what's going to happen.

FAD is still giving only 30%. Best I can find out there is 30%.

No thx to the ceramic PO. The current PO with the 8500 would be great, IMO. I love the matte dial.

For that much money, I would want a totally in-house movement, not some ETA based mumbo jumbo. I love Omega, but I don't like the direction they are headed in terms of price. And as far as ceramic, yuk. Like putting chrome wheels on your 4x4.

Well, if we're going to split hairs here, it's technically "forum favorite AD" but who's counting. And I wasn't implying he was the forum's AD - I hope there was no confusion over that. :salute:

And he's not even authorized anymore. Not since 2009 at least. Now he's just some favorite dealer. Like the one on the street corner, except better pricing. Heehee.

Yeah, that surprised the heck out of me.

I'd still buy from him if I was buying new though.

No shit? That's what I get for staying out of the loop on these things. Oh well- I'd still buy from him, especially with Omega moving (rapidly) towards boutiques (and with the weight of the Court of Appeals behind them) :tap:
