Weiss Standard Issue Field watch mini review

Post by toxicavenger » Thu Dec 01, 2016 8:50 pm

I had to wait a little bit to decide what I really think of the Weiss Field watch and here is what I came up with.

I like it. Is it perfect? No, but is it a really nice watch? Absolutely. I really like the look of the watch, and the finish of the case. It isn't over the top, but at this price point I really didn't expect it to be. It is super easy to read, no to mention it wears great on the wrist.

My only two complaints is: One, it looks like it is a full 44mm size, not 42mm like I expected. Second, the dial finish, it looks really basic, and the lack of lume on the dial kind of adds to that. If it just had a small dab of lume at each marker then it would work better.

If Cameron had a dial with raised markers, a little lume on it and maybe an auto movement I would like it even better. But as a entry watch level watch for Weiss I really like it.

I guess for me at least, raised or applied markers would kill the intended look. It is meant to be that throwback to field watches of the past. I wouldn't mind an auto movement though.

Agreed, the printed dial does have a ole' school look to it. And the added markers would kill that. Even just some little round lume dots would be cool on it.

Thanks for the review. I feel the same about a few things. It wears large for a 42mm watch, on the wrist it appears comparable to my eye as my 44mm PVD Alpina chrono. After trying on the Oak & Oscar Sandford, I like the 40mm size for this style watch on my wrist but I am sure the larger watch bodes well for Weiss. I like the simplicity and texture of the dial but would have liked better lume on the hands and lumed dots at the markers. A small pet peeve of mine is how the minute hand bends up towards the tip. Usually on a domed crystal watch or as on the MIH the tip usally bends down. I have not seen anybody complain about that so I am not sure of it is a defect on mine or on all of them. Has anybody else seen that?

Overall for the price it is a good value. I have been on the run all week leaving my house early running in and out of the city for meetings and coming home late. I haven't had time to take out another watch, the Weiss has been on a comfortable strap and on comfortably on my wrist all week. It is easy to wear and not a bad choice to work for dress and casual wear. If it leaves the collection it would be only for a smaller sized field / pilot watch but anything else I like right now costs more than double the price of what I paid for the Weiss.

I am not that anal to see all that shit that you mention blowfish, but why they hell would sell a watch without disclosing that if you thought it was an issue? Sorry, but if I knew that I would disclose it before selling it to anyone, or I would get it fixed.

Zach, thanks for the offer to fix it. But I don't see any issue with it  . But it shows that you have some integrity.

Terry brought this to breakfast last week and I loved it. Good size and easy reader with the white dial all the better on his kangaroo strap.

Nick you're a 100% you would have mentioned if you knew.

Thanks Nick, but if you were aware of it I am sure you would have said something. I just can't fathom how someone can crap on my thread complaining about a qc issue of a watch they sold to someone without disclosing that.

Either way my watchmaker can do it with no issues.

I've always really liked the look of these, but the size likely wouldn't work for me. Particularly if they wear bigger than specs.

Also, lively day around DWC today.

I'm sorry, I notice some very minor things like this in almost every purchase I make, I should not have complained here.
