Enzo Mechana EMV - the "V" letter mystery now solved

Post by Diaboliq » Thu Jan 07, 2010 2:49 am

I was always wondering -- while Enzos are always considered "tool" divers, that EMV could stand for "Electro Magnetic Valve" or something similar "tool" like (while there was also an EMV on "Trieste" bathyscaphe -- where additional weight was held actively in place at the throats of two hopper-like ballast silos by electromagnetic valves, so that in case of an electrical failure the bathyscape would automatically rise to the surface.)

Anyways, contacted Enzo himself (and what a great guy!)

Q: Perhaps a stupid question

Hi Enzo. I'm considering to buy the EMV since I fell in love with it the moment I saw it.
Could you please what does EMV stand for? And why is the crown signed with "V" instead of EM logotype? Would it be possible to buy other crown for it? Thanks, Joseph

And Enzo answered:

hello my friend :)

not at all, good question in actual fact:)

originally emv was to be a line I made for another biz partner, thus by
enzo it is on the back:) so its a v line, not em. I was working on
other names, and v was something in my mind as a start, since
veritas/truth, was a value I just felt was something good in this world,
so after a few sample names were floating around, and it started to
become more associated w the em line, I went with emv:)

I haven't any extra em crowns, but do have v ones:) the only small few I
have left are assigned to after sales warranty service for clients that
wanted them held for them just in case.

but maybe the v has a deeper meaning now, yes:)

____

There you go, mystery (at least it was for me) is now solved! :)

Enzo is a great guy to know and deal with..

From what I could gather... Enzo use to work in NY w/some partners and that is where the EMV line began..Enzo split with those guys and now works and lives in Hong Kong...

What you will notice is that some of his watches (like the Sub Hatch model)
have his name on it on the dial---EnzoMechana..These watches are a separate line.

Enzo also makes some killer buffalo leather straps...

Cheers
Mike

Enzo is a great guy and the those first watches he produced are great. I really wish he would have followed through with the Enzo GMT as he has a very big internet following and it probably would have been successful for him but that seems to have dragged on forever.

The EMV posted above has been on my want list off and on for a long time. Now it's back on.

Just love that thing, and it's actually a good size without getting crazy. And I have heard nothing but good things about Enzo himself, and any communication always seems to confirm that.

Enzo has his own web site.. I would just e-mail him if and when you want the watch..he has demos, etc...If he can make it work he will...

I bought a Sub hatch from him that was in LNIB condition for a decent price...

I have to agree with all of the comments. Over the years I have contacted Enzo a few times and I bought some straps from him. Every time regardless of what I asked his responses are always a joy to read, as if a long lost friend was responding. He is one guy that truly seems to love life and makes the best of it.
Regards
Barry

Yeah he rocks, but i agree that the GMT is taking FOREVER. :cussing:

He would have sold it out twice if it came out in time, with all the hype.
