Transformers 3 in town

The crew shooting Transformers 3 is in town, and like a lot of movie crews in DC, they set up base camp in the parking lot across the street from our HQ building. (Used to be the old convention center until they tore it down.)

Here's a couple Q&D iPhone shots from my office as their "police force" prepares for a night of movie-making. The second is better since their catering truck has already loaded up and moved to their location down along the National Mall. They were lining them up to make sure they were wearing their uniforms properly. I saw them showing the "actors" how to blouse boots and such.




They had several MPD units down there, nice pretty shiny brand new Ford Expeditions. WAY nicer than what MPD drives around in the real world. No way they could be real police cruisers.

I also heard that during yesterday's shoot, their fancy "bumblebee" yellow Camaro was hit by a REAL MPD police unit at an intersection.

They'll be here all week. I'll let ya know if they do anything else of any interest. BTW, no Shia LaBeouf sightings for all you out there.

I saw the footage of the crash on the news this morning. Classic.

they were here in chicago for a few weeks,,,,total pain in the ass......closed down Main streets etc...glad they are gone!!!

This is why code 3 is code 3. Lights & sirens = Hello, please move aside while I try to assist one of your fellow citizens...you knob. Thank you.

But it's obvious the "movie guy" down at the end of the street didn't radio any of his people, "Hey, there's a real cop car coming down the street." It also seems none of the MPD officers---and supervisors, hey it's a movie, you know there are supervisors on-scene, none of them managed to warn the right "movie person" that their little scene was about to be in the middle of a real world police response.

Well, let's hope he was going code to a call involving some significant officer/life safety issues, otherwise, that officer is screwed. He had better not been going code on a chow run. At least it appears it was only a vehicle used to exterior shots, what with the completely smoked out windows so you can't see your hero ain't driving. I'd guess the other Camaros might be more expensive with all the interior camera & sound equipment, but that smashed bumblebee might be "souped up" or something...that does = $$$

That flamed rig (I've been told is Optimus Prime sp?) is also in the parking lot across the street. The smaller vehicles appear to be kept covered on a flatbed or in the back of a trailer.

The caterers are back & setting up for the 1PM feeding. If I see anything else of note, I'll post it...but all I have handy is my iPhone.
