Barton Straps- Negative Experience
Barton Straps- Negative Experience
Hated to do it, but wrote this negative review earlier. I ordered 2 of their new Tropic straps: a black 21mm for my Sub41, and a navy 24mm for my Panerai 562.
The 21mm arrived and went right onto my Sub- fit perfect and I’m a fan! The 24mm didn’t arrive, but a 23mm did arrive in its place. No big deal, reached out to customer service- they told me to keep it and give it to someone else (which I did here), and sent me a replacement.
Long story short, I received (2) additional 23mm Navy straps. What the fuck, over? After a 3rd complaint asking for someone to reach out to me via phone as the emails weren’t getting the issue fixed, they issued me a refund and told me to just re-order. That’s a no for me, thanks.
Then I got an email with a link asking for a review of my 24mm Navy Tropic, so I let them know my feelings on the matter:

Re: Barton Straps- Negative Experience
Maybe someone filled the 24mm strap bin with 23mm straps (at Barton warehouse) ?

Re: Barton Straps- Negative Experience
Reminds me of when I was buying some floor mats for my Tacoma. They were advertised as for the 4 door truck, with drivers side, passenger side, and rear fitted mats.
When I received, I got the front set, but no rear mat. I returned and re-ordered, this time I received only the rear mat, not fronts. I set up the return again, and re-ordered - but did not ship back the rear mat. The new box contained only the fronts again, but since I had kept the rear I finally had the complete set.
Amazon took care of the refund.
A bit of a run around, but at least I was out just some time and not any money.

The strap package has a # after the color for each item; i.e.- Navy-23 on it for the 23mm straps.HapaHapa wrote:Maybe someone filled the 24mm strap bin with 23mm straps (at Barton warehouse) ?
It’s just laziness, in my opinion.
Re: Barton Straps- Negative Experience
I had a similar mix up with my order from Barton.
I ordered several straps and as part of the order, they sent me a black 2 piece nato rather than the navy blue I had ordered.
Like your order, they told me to keep the wrong strap and shipped me out the correct strap as well.
In my case though, the replacement strap they sent was the correct one.
I do really like their Jetson nato straps. They are super easy to neuter (cut off the extra strap) leaving me with an upgrade over the usual mill series (nylon keeper) strap.

Compared to shit on a box, this seems minor.

I’m 3 weeks past my initial order, and still don’t have the 24mm strap that I originally ordered.JP Chestnut wrote:Compared to shit on a box, this seems minor.
Yes, it’s a small potatoes, 1st World problem, but this is a watch forum.
Have yet to hear from anyone about the issue either, so I’m done with them. I know they won’t miss my business, and though I do buy a LOT of watches and straps, my failing to buy from them won’t affect their P&L.
This was just a cautionary tale to those considering purchasing from Barton- they can’t be bothered to pay attention to basic details.
Just my $0.02…

They do have a store on Amazon as well.
Perhaps the Amazon route would offer better results?

Could just order direct from the manufacturer on Aliexpress instead of paying resellers like Barton.SoCal C4S wrote: ↑Thu Jul 22, 2021 12:14 pmI’m 3 weeks past my initial order, and still don’t have the 24mm strap that I originally ordered.JP Chestnut wrote:Compared to shit on a box, this seems minor.

I saw his name pop up on WatchRecon so he’s still around. Just not here.JDC222 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 22, 2021 8:49 pmSoCal C4S wrote:I’m 3 weeks past my initial order, and still don’t have the 24mm strap that I originally ordered.JP Chestnut wrote:Compared to shit on a box, this seems minor.

I was going to order a couple, but glad I held off. Naive question - what's the rectangular hole at the tail of the strap for?

Wearing mine today actually. There’s a piece on the inside of the keeper that locks into that hole so the keeper won’t slip off.
I find the tropics to be a little too plasticy feeling. Maybe that’s to remain true to the originals?
Anyway, I wish they were a smidge thinner and had a taper.
They are an excellent option for sub 7” wrists though with the long and short strap option.

Re: Barton Straps- Negative Experience
It’s a bit short for me even with the longer tail. Had to remove the second keeper to get it to work on my Sub41.
Honestly, I’ll probably just put the bracelet back on, as I agree with your stance on their Tropic…

Re: Barton Straps- Negative Experience
Thanks to SoCal4S for sending the strap my way!
Have to agree with some of the other reviews - if’s very stiff and the “long” end of the strap is pretty short. Appreciate the kind gesture though!
