^^^ If anyone believes those don't exist with fake Seiko dials somewhere and sold as reps through other channels, they're simply being naive.
Exactly,
Those guys are in denial "please don't call it fake" lol

Did you get shown the door, Chris? If so, what kind of door was it?
That watch is pretty much over the line for me...a great example of a watch that is still in production that gets copied by some brand to turn a buck.

That watch is clearly a photo of a Seiko with a dial photoshopped in, which is really disgusting.
An eBay search for that one lead to finding this one.

That's the Facebook Diver's Watches group, by the way.

Naive or just unwilling to admit it's a copy. Has anyone been bold enough to do a side by side comparison with the real thing?

I can't imagine why someone that owns a real MM300 would want to touch that thing. Other than the fakers to copy it.

That's basically why I refuse to participate in any of the FB groups.

The same thread about this fake is on WUS. One member actually noticed that Murker, Merkur, Murky, or whatever the f@ck they're called used his wrist shot of his MM300, with the dial Photoshopped. This and the Tuna copy I just don't get how they sincerely believe it's a ligitable homage.

The MM300 looks about 100x nicer here.

Okay. That Merker thing is a straight up copy. It's exactly the same except it doesn't say Seiko.
I didn't think it could get worse than the one below, but it does.

They should have ditched the BB novelty crown and gone with a fake triplock. It would have been better than the original!

matt.wu wrote:It has everything to do with originality, design, and WORK.
Many of the "new" designs I see today from some of the most respected brands look just like a more polished version (mostly attributable to the difference in budgets) of what you are claiming some micros are doing.
95% of Omega latest offerings are either copies of older models or they suck.
Rolex just released an inflated Sub and called it the new seadweller.
IWC is cranking out copies of their older models, only a bit worse because of shitty date placement.
I see most of the industry lacking in originality, not only the micro level.
Borealis offers great watches for the money, allowing a lot of people with smaller budgets to enjoy a hobby they love.
Most of their offerings don't do anything for me, but I don't understand what the problem is.
The difference is that the examples that you provided above are copies or homages to watches that those brands actually designed. See the difference?
Designs are allowed to suck. There are many that do, at all price points...if they are honest attempts, they tend to get a little more respect on DWC than if they borrow from another brand's efforts on the design front and borrow their IP.
Just my take.
The IWC / Omega of today re-issuing a design that is 50 years old has about the same ties to the original watch as any borealis micro.
So assuming I go out and buy a dead brand, then reissue the same old watches they made back in time (happened over and over again) this is ok.
If one micro does the same but putting their own name becaus they don't have the $$$ to buy the rights of the brand, that's not ok?
Can you tell me what the difference is in practical terms?
If one only buys Rolex, Patek, Seiko and a few others I get the reasoning, but so many brands have been resurrected by people who had zero to do with the original design I have a tough time buying your argument.
Obviously the 1:1 replicas rebranded are not part of this discussion, those are just pieces of shit.
Buy the brand, buy the heritage. It's not like SAS and Halios don't manage to make watches that are
1) original
2) pretty cheap
3) not novelty shit
It can clearly be done, and taking a dump on brands that don't bother... is fine

Richard Murphy? I recognized his name. He sold me my Pelagos last year on TRF. Seemed like a cool dude. Is he in support of this replica watch tomfoolery?

I don't think so. He seems like a good guy and just wants to stay out of it.

How often do the factories send out new catalogs?
