I think I get the 36mm joke.
The ENABLER, has been telling me that the 36mm Explorer is THE WATCH to own since I’ve known him. I resisted and got his 39 and adore it, but admittedly- I was curious how a 36 would look on my 7.3” wrist. Fast forward my FIL’s 36mm Seiko thats been sitting in a drawer for the last 15 years. I tried some straps on it, but 18mm is just too thin for me. Last night I had an idea to find a flexotwist to replace the broken one that was on the watch years ago and WHA-LA it’s pretty awesome- and the size is pretty cool too. So much to learn in this hobby.

That looks great on you
I just spent a few weeks with a 34mm and loved it. Sadly, it's back with its owner, but I have adjusted my watch recon watch list. to be fair, I do that every couple of days, lol, but now it includes a few 34mm options.
I've also owned a few 36mm Datejusts and 36mm Explorers and would again with no hesitation or regrets
Size is not everything - at least that's what my wife tells me, lol - if you like then wear it.
Re: I think I get the 36mm joke.
Thanks Mike - I’ve been drooling on some ‘58 Omega’s and wondered how they’d fit. I think the 20mm bracelet strap is the real clincher for me. I dont like the 18, but 20 is sweet on these smaller watches. Stay tuned… :-)rockmastermike wrote:That looks great on you

For the record, Im NOT advocating this Seiko/bracelet as the bomb… just saying the 36mm/20mm size is very nice on the wrist.

I stand by my earlier statement.
Re: I think I get the 36mm joke.
I'm so glad i didn't opt for the 36 explorer as I was ready to pay and tried to persuade the AD to sell me the display. Equally happy I posted a thread to get me into the 40.
I have a couple 34mm inherited from my FIL, who developed a nickel? allergy and can't wear watches anymore. A crisp unpolished '71 constellation and '71 hi-beat seiko lordmatic. Apparently 1971 was a great year for him in the Japanese metallurgical business.
They're fun to wear but way too small... My wife wears them on special occasions.
BUT that is 34 and i happen to think this looks tasteful on you. As mentioned in the WRUW thread, again no adjustment needed with all the links installed on the 40 explorer, with fat 7.75" wrists

Dude. Massive ‘Grats!!! Get ready for the rest of your watches to get lonely. Looks awesome!!!sierra11b wrote:I'm so glad i didn't opt for the 36 explorer as I was ready to pay and tried to persuade the AD to sell me the display. Equally happy I posted a thread to get me into the 40.

Re: I think I get the 36mm joke.
That size does look really good on your wrist. I had a 36mm Tudor day - date (rare one with the mercedes hands and the cali dial) but found it was too small on my 7.25" wrist. I'm wearing a 39mm grand seiko these days and it seems perfect for me. I suspect it has more to do with the shape of the wrist vs the overall diameter when it comes to these things.
Re: I think I get the 36mm joke.
I also found that the strap/lug width is a big factor for me. The Seiko in the pics is an 18mm - but the bracelet (if you can call it that…) is a 21 and I think it totally changes the look for me. I have an IWC 37mm with 20mm lug width and I really love wearing it.Mr_Pacman wrote:That size does look really good on your wrist. Lug to lug and width is absolutely key with small watches. I thought the 114270 worked well when I owned, and was a bit floored at how small it was in comparison to new 36mm model.Wario406 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 12, 2023 2:35 pmI also found that the strap/lug width is a big factor for me. I think the 36mm Longines legend diver will be a good buy once they start showing on the secondary market. The original had very long lugs... Doable for you and me, but remember it being a concern for people with smaller wrists
Re: I think I get the 36mm joke.
It looks very well on your wrist, not too big, not too small, either. 20 mm lug width / bracelet does make a huge difference of how the watch sits and feels on the wrist. Wear it in good health.Wario406 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 10, 2023 5:41 pmThe ENABLER, has been telling me that the 36mm Explorer is THE WATCH to own since I’ve known him. FIL is usually referring to Father in law.serdal22 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 12, 2023 11:11 pmIt looks very well on your wrist, not too big, not too small, either. 20 mm lug width / bracelet does make a huge difference of how the watch sits and feels on the wrist.
