$600. Seiko SKX009J?!

I just saw an SKX009J on WUS for $600. Really? Granted, it's like new with boxes an papers, but c'mon. I was buying these even after they were discontinued on The Watch Site (old Seiko/Citizen Watch Forum) for $125-$130. I know, times change, but damn.

The market is incredibly soft but maybe some schmuck is willing to pay? It's not a terrible idea to list something at a premium if you're not motivated to move, but that price is ridiculous.

Well, it is a popular watch, not produced anymore. I got mine in mint condition for 350, maybe can be found floating arround for 300 (talking about skx's in nice condition and allignment) which is also double and more for the price I payed for new ones (creationwatches) few yrs ago. As always, market is dictating the prices. Definetely 600 is too much but who knows. Seller can always try

It is hard to believe how those were the modder’s platform of choice for so long and now they are +/- $500.

I still own my unmodified SKX007J (except for an Uncle Seiko bracelet). I still appreciate how comfortable it is to wear. It was just a well thought out design.

Same way a really nice BMW E30 was $5k ten years ago, now they're $20k+. Great cars for $5k, not so much for $25k. SKXs are great for up to about $300 (IMHO), beyond that, ouch.

You can easily find a second hand grand seiko quartz for a little more than that, and it’s a completely different animal

I passed mine along here just a few months ago for only $250.

I used to by these regularly for $175-200 ish. I’d usually give them to the kids after a while or flip them. Lately, I’ve noticed them on Amazon, jomashop, etc for $600-800. The Seiko 5 model seems to have replaced them. I saw the orange model I have on eBay recently for almost $900. That’s high as giraffe nuts. Guess I’ll hang on to it.
