I want a SARG009...
I saw one of these today, I fell in love and I want one. What's your advice? Where do I get one and what do I need to look for?

Carlo had one. They are a sweet model. But unfortunately not a big seller in the US.

I always liked these but never picked up one when they were still easy to come by from the Japanese sellers.

Pretty sure these have been discontinued for a few years, so used will be your only option. I did a quick google search and only found a few on ebay. They're in the $600-$900 range, which if I remember correctly is 2-3 times what they were new.

That’s what I was seeing too. I just missed one in the $550 range on Reddit - but, I shouldn’t be buying watches right now… I just told RJ that I was thinning my herd. Then I looked in my watch box and Im up 4 and have two incoming.jswing wrote:Pretty sure these have been discontinued for a few years, so used will be your only option. Yes, I usually add watches when I'm downsizing too.Wario406 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 01, 2022 10:33 amThat’s what I was seeing too. Discontinued for a while now. I had one and loved it, still kicking myself for selling it.

Mine’s a pos. Ran like crap off and on, and this week it blew the hairspring.

Interesting. I have had hundreds of Seikos and only one had a bad movement... They normally run nicely and keep time, they are also easy to adjust if one knows what to do.
Re: I want a SARG009...
The accuracy on mine has wandered from -3m/d to +6m/d randomly. My watch guy felt he nailed it down, but two weeks later it blew the hair spring. Maybe that’s what was going on with it all along.CarloDWC wrote:Interesting. I have had hundreds of Seikos and only one had a bad movement... I love how it looks and wears - but, it’s run like junk since I got it and I’ve heard others say that the 6R15 movement is a pretty big POS.

I am incredibly disciplined and NEVER buy/sell/trade watches unless I’ve thought about it for weeks, have ruled out all idiotic moves and that a potential transaction is a benefit to me financially while ugrading my “collection”.Wario406 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 01, 2022 11:53 amjswing wrote:Yes, I usually add watches when I'm downsizing too.Wario406 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 01, 2022 10:33 amThat’s what I was seeing too. Re: I want a SARG009...
That sucks... if it was mine I would just replace the whole movement with a new one that way you have all new components.Wario406 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 19, 2023 1:29 pmThe accuracy on mine has wandered from -3m/d to +6m/d randomly. Re: I want a SARG009...
Assuming it’s the “C” type balance wheel, our watchmaker said those balances are causing this 6R15 issue. Seiko finally updated that movement because the old balance would get replaced and just fail again. I think the jury’s still out on whether the new 6R35 is more reliable.Wario406 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 20, 2023 12:09 pmThat may be next - Tbag recommended the same thing.CarloDWC wrote:That sucks... if it was mine I would just replace the whole movement with a new one that way you have all new components.Wario406 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 19, 2023 1:29 pmThe accuracy on mine has wandered from -3m/d to +6m/d randomly. Re: I want a SARG009...
argh… And, Im into this watch for ~$500 before repairs. A new movement is gonna be another +$400 plus install. There goes a bunch of fun money.TSD wrote:Assuming it’s the “C” type balance wheel, our watchmaker said those balances are causing this 6R15 issue. Re: I want a SARG009...
The 6R35 is no better than the 6R15. It just gives you 20 more hours of power reserve........aka 20 more hours of inconsistency.

They are in spades.
Owned a few 6R35 and they don't seem to have the inconsistency of the R15 (owned 5?).... But whatever you get + or - is what you're left with unless you get it regulated.
Have one R35 and thankfully it's about +5seconds
