Need help: SPB187 or SPB143?

Post by sierra11b » Tue Dec 22, 2020 6:13 am

Having trouble deciding which to try next as there can only be one....

The faithful less pricey 62MAS re-issue (SPB143) -OR- the upcoming sunburst bruiser new version MM200 (SPB187)?

Thoughts?

If anything, this poll will tell me which has the better chance of flip here.

I voted for the 143, but really either is solid choice.

The 143 is a bit smaller, and the lug design makes it really easy to run on an ISO, NATO, or really any strap you'd like with minimal "strap gap".

With the 187, I'd run that on its stock bracelet and leave it at that (which is what I've done with my MM300 since I bought it new about 8 years ago. It has never been off its bracelet).

I do like the crown location on the 187, but I've never had an issue with the crown location on my SLA017 so I don't think it would be an issue on the 143 either.

Bottom line for me is the 143 wins due to strap versatility.

Good point. The 143 does look good on a number of straps. I’m not a huge strap guy but occasionally get the urge to wear on nato.

Tough choice, I don't think you could go wrong with either.

That said, I own the 143 and enjoy it a lot. As Chris said, the lug design makes many straps fit wonderfully. The bracelet, while not the best in the world, is not bad. I put the adjustable MM300 clasp on it and find myself wearing it on bracelet more than any other combo (if I had not put the MM300 clasp on it I don't think that would be the case as I find adjustability paramount).

Looks aside, maybe it depends on your preference of how the watch sits on the wrist.

while I don't own a 143 (but a SLA017), I do feel it to be sitting a little higher than I would prefer (spring bars higher up), whereas 185 felt very similar to my SLA033, and that makes a lot of difference in comfort, to me.
Seiko with a 4-o'clock crown feels just natural, with added benefit in comfort.

No bad choices there I suppose. Get both.

Blue 187 to leave on bracelet, 143 for natos?!?!?!

I have the same conundrum Eric :scream:

And I will be keeping the green Willard.

Edit: I spent my lunch browsing photos of divers with steel bezels, like the SPB185. The Black Bay that has the steel bezel looks really good in natos. Plus in my case, I dont have a watch with a steel bezel... I might change to a 185.
