Seiko Military Turtle

Post by CarloDWC » Fri Dec 18, 2020 8:03 pm

It is not a secret that I like military styled watches. I made several projects with that in mind in fact and most of them I posted. There was one project that I kept thinking about and attempted but did not result in what I wanted, at least not fully. I liked it in part but I still wanted to make it better, at least for me.

Of course I am limited to what exists in terms of watches, cases, parts, dials, hands, etc. but I was convinced that I would be able to put these together in a satisfying design and result in my ideal military watch. Actually I don't have just one thought but several... meaning I am not stuck with one idea of what a military watch could be, so I have actually several different ideas and styles.

This project is something new for me, I did something similar a few weeks ago but this one came out better, at least this is how I feel about it. Of course on the way to achieve that I ended up changing an earlier project too which by coincidence was also a military project.

The watch originally had a different bezel and insert, I actually got another bezel and insert from a King Turtle, this one had the ceramic insert and different grip. However this did not fit on the watch, for some reason it was not turning. So I installed this on an earlier military project I did and took the one that was on that watch and installed it on the new project. This one worked perfectly. With a top hat sapphire crystal the external look was completed. Internally I used a sub type dial and military ladder hands...

So here is the result:

Here is the earlier project and the new bezel:

Here are a couple of pics side by side, the crystal on the new project is similar to the other one but about 3/4 of a mm thinner so it does not stick out as much, actually I like it better... But I love them both. I guess I consider them tool watches...

Thank you, the straps are elastic Nato straps. I found these to be the best for me, they hold the watch in place without being too tight.

Nice ones Carlo. I like the military look, so recently bought a Dagaz 6105 style case version - NAFT.

Thank you Steve, that one you have there is a Typhoon. At least that's what Jake calls it. Looks very nice too.

The Elastic straps are from Cheapest Natos, a Swedish company. These straps are now my favorite.

Well I changed over the Type one watch, mostly with a new dial and hands. Here is the result.

The dial is from Raffles time while the hands are from Dagaz.
