New Tunas

Post by jswing » Tue Apr 21, 2015 10:22 am

I was just looking on Timeless Luxury's site, and they show the whole lineup of new Tunas, including what looks to be replacements for the classic 015,017 and 013. So I think it's fair to say the classic Tuna is over. I personally have grown to like the new look, although I'll definitely be keeping my Darth. Wouldn't mind adding an SBBN025 or 027 though.

New Emperor too:

The old hands were distinctly Seiko. Not sure I like the new hands.

Darth vs Emperor... they're both big. One is just bigger.

I wear a Darth every day, but I'm maxed out size wise. I'd love to have an auto Tuna, so that's why I'd like to know if the new Emperor is actually smaller than the Darth. I think it is not, I think everyone is mis-quoting the size.

The size difference is significant, or I'd already have an Emperor.

Is it just me or does it look like the SBBN031 comes with a different bracelet than the SBBN015? That could have been a stupid move and, in my humble opinion, a solution to a non-existent problem... The SBBN015 bracelet was one of the best things to come out of the Prospex line.

I dunno... I don't dislike the new hands but do prefer the older style. I do know my initial reaction was to contact Japan straight away for an older version because there doesn't seem to be much improvement to anything currently offered. The ONLY thing that would open my wallet faster than greased goose poo would be an all Brightz Titanium SBBN015.

EDIT: Speaking of Brightz it seems the SS models are Brightz coated.

If Dan@Timeless has his hands on these rest assured he can answer your question or a full review is in the works.

Don't think anyone has them in hand, but you're right, once he does have them we can get a definitive answer. I'm nearly positive the specs for the new emperor are being mis-quoted. Not just by Timeless, but by everyone. An AD in Japan told me Seiko's specs for the current Darth is 49.4mm and Emperor is 48.2mm. That's obviously wrong.

I don't get Tunas. Aside their aesthetics the giant ones are smack magnets.

I didn't "get" them either until I got one myself. Given, I don't have a giant Tuna - just the slightly less giant 017

I've never smacked mine. They're not as unwieldy as the specs suggest. And that's coming from a guy that 3 months ago refused to wear anything bigger than a Submariner. But if you don't like the aesthetics there's nothing to be done for that.

I like the old versions, and I like the new. I've already jumped on a new SBBN029 (thanks, Jeff  ). I'm intrigued by the cermet shroud, and I need a solid, do-anything watch for the summer.

Thanks, Kelly. Unfortunately, I gotta wait until July.

I didn't notice the new bracelet. Doesn't really look right for a Tuna.

Interested to see more pics of the Tunas but I'm like Terry and don't like several new features to the 031.

Just recently started getting the Tuna fever. I'll stick with the 015/017 when it comes time to buy.

Make that a +2.

I will say... I rarely like "new" changes on old favorites, but eventually those changes to tend to grow on me. They are still using the same 7c46 motor in the quartz models and that is huge. Great motor, glad it is not changing.

I also don't care for the changes in the dial that Terry noted. I love the old indices.

The new bracelet looks like the MM bracelet to me. Perhaps a bit too refined for a Tuna? The rubber strap is denoted as being silicon. I hope that they are not using the hair pulling type of silicon rubber. The old strap is the business due to its pliability.

Man. I'm so glad now I picked up my 015 last year. Don't really like the new handset and hour markers. Doesn't feel like the Tuna anymore.

Love the Tuna line up.. .but the new bracelet is not right.
The 015 replacement says that it is stainless with hard coating.
I may have to pick up another down the road.

Not sure how I feel about the hands.

And for everyone saying that a Tuna is too big.... It depends on the Tuna. I can tell you that the smaller quartz 015 is not big at all. It seems small after wearing my EZM 10, which is the size of what most people are in to now-a days.

The Darth does not wear as big as the specs suggest because its lugless. Does not wear much bigger than the 015 in reality. Fantastic watch.
Not sure about the hands on the new one. The "Bling" is very "tool". Is that price right
