Just got the itch for for another vintage diver

Post by River Rat » Sat Feb 03, 2024 12:15 pm

Well saw this on eBay this week. Been wanting one of these the price was right due to the dials shape. They normally sell for more with a better dial like 200-400 more. Ordered a vintage tropic strap for it. A Caravelle sea hunter. Has a cool handset. Might send it to Jack and have the dial relumed to improve the dial. Should get it in about 2 weeks. hoping the dial better in person sometimes photos don't do a watch justice.

Great pickup! I would consider resume if the dial can be cleaned up, otherwise I would leave it as it is. Lots or character there. If you’re lucky maybe the dial is actually in good shape and it’s the crystal that makes it look milky.

It's coming from the Philippines with the humidity there might have got to the dial. The movement photos showed a clean movement no rust. Pollywatch should clean up the crystal.

Nice. Back in the day these were available at Radio Shack for about $10. I’d use it at the beach for the Summer, the it would usually die. Glad they’re still around.

The movement looks in great shape. Will get the movement serviced. The gasket did not turn to mush yet like some vintage have.

Hodinke wanted 2500.00 for one 2 grand more. crazy what they charge. But theirs was in better condition with hodinke famous wrist shots. But this shows there still some vintage watch deals on eBay to be found.

Well received it the other day keeps good time 5 seconds slow a day. Am thinking of sending it to Jack to relume the dial to match hands. And if he can locate a Bulova 666 with date window dial have that replaced if not keep the original figure a new crystal you could see the dial better. Put a tropic strap on it.

Can't believe this found an original crystal for it. Has 665 on the package so knew for sure it was correct. I think this crystal will make you see the dial better so make the dial easier to see and make it where I might not want to relume it. The old crystal been beat up some cracks and maybe a little yellowing due to age were in certain light hard to see the dial. Also, the Bulova early snorkel had the same case since 35mm.

No, it doesn't the old school O -ring in the crown set up. It had no C on crown so a replacement. Saw these replacement Caravelle waterproof diver crowns on eBay so bought them with the new crystal and new crowns installed when I have this watch service should be waterproof for around rain and snow and humidity would not dive with it though.

Well back from service. New correct crystal and crown and movement service. Maybe 800 in it and Hodinkee sold one for 2700.00 deals can still be had but not on Hodinkee.

Very cool Mike. Back around ‘78 I worked with a guy who wore one of those. Always wanted one. Congrats!
