Granddad's watch.

Met up with my close cousin for a steak dinner last night. We're like brothers and it was just us two.

When old Granddad passed in '07, he handled the collections (stamps.(retired USPS and air corps/USAF, coins, et al.), and I handled the firearms... Too many to count of each...

We both handled it quite well, selling what would give our wonderful Grandmother of the war, discretionary income, while trying to cherry pick the gems on the back end. Fortunately, Grandma survived a long time (2012), and we collectively managed to maintain her home for a comfortable living in her last days, selling a lot of those gems outright.

Gave my cousin a couple sweet early S&Ws, which he uses, BUT at a family BBQ yesterday, he presented me with this Waltham he was given outright being 5yrs my senior... A pretty cool tuxedo/bullseye dial waltham...

Stem is a bit stiff, and I don't want to overwind, but works all around otherwise, tritium markers, crisp hands/indices, and an acrylic crystal I applied some poly watch to...

nice! worth a service, for sure. i don't wear my grandfather's watch (and later my dad's watch) that often, cuz i'm not much of a dress watch guy. but it's always nice in those moments and brings me back to both of them when i wear it.

I sent my grandfather’s 1918 Elgin pocket watch to Archer Watches http://www.archerwatches.ca in Canada to have it restored because he photo documents the tear down, cleaning, repair, reassembly, and timing adjustments and gives you a PDF of all of that, which I can pass on to the next generation.

So cool! It's a great watch with an even better history.
I'd definitely get it serviced and even if not worn regularly, at least occasionally.
Despite the trends towards much larger watches these days, I think that a nice vintage smaller dress watch is the best in certain situations.
As far as the band. (in best Jerry Seinfeld voice...) what's the deal with old men and their love of stretch o flex bands?

I think it would look great on a nice Hirsch ostrich band.

It's worth putting the money into it for a service. A piece of family history I got my grandfather's pocket watch and got it serviced he got it on his 21st birthday.
