Seiko sport automatic

Post by Viking » Mon Apr 19, 2021 1:21 pm

Hi

When i was 15 back in 1984 i bought a Seiko sport automatic 150m (pepsi bezel). The number on the back is AN8440.
Could have been 1985 also. I tried too search that number but not much info. Is there anybody out there who can point me in the right direction to fins the year it was made and maybe the current value of it?
( my cellphone pica was to big to post here).

Thx in advance

There should be other numbers on the back, AN8440 sounds like a date code and serial number. Model/movement numbers are typically in 1234-1234 format on the case back. Once you get those numbers you can try to find a value.

Looks like an old SHF047 Kinetic. I'm guessing the capacitor in yours is probably very old and not holding much charge. This is a known failure point in these old Kinetics. There are places out there that will replace the capacitors with modern Lithium Ion batteries which will get it going again.

As far as value you can check Ebay for comps. Maybe a couple of hundred $$ in good working condition. Badly beaten up with a bad capacitor, probably not worth much.

I also think your timeline is a little off. Doubtful that you purchased the watch in 84/85 since the 5m23 movement didn't start production until 88.
