Seiko 6309 Not Winding
What would cause a Seiko 6309-7049 to run for about 30 seconds and then stop after getting a decent seiko shake? The hands and day/date wheel move smoothly and the watch has no signs of unusual wear.
I know this watch needs servicing, but would that explain why it seems to have no power reserve, or could it be a more serious issue that is not obvious to me? I have never had an automatic watch this old before.
Thanks!
Patrick

Dirt in the movement, oil dried out, you don't say if it is a new thing, if it was running for 30 hours yesterday and today only 30 seconds, or it never ran. etc. If it needs servicing then that's your answer...

Could be the rotor not rotating to wind it. Had that happen to a few watches. When you shake it if you don't hear the rotor moving that it.

It may sound elementary, but did you try hand-winding it with the crown?

The 6309 does not hand wind, it’s a shake and bake like the 7S26.gilbertdillon wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2024 2:13 amIt may sound elementary, but did you try hand-winding it with the crown?
If you put a large switch in some cave somewhere, with a sign on it saying 'End-of-the-World Switch. PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH', the paint wouldn't even have time to dry.

Re: Seiko 6309 Not Winding
Given how many various issues that could cause this winding problem, I have sent it off for servicing with Jack @ IWW. It is way over due and needs it.

Jack does good work he has one of my watches now.

Re: Seiko 6309 Not Winding
I finally got my 6309 back from Jack at IWW and he had to replace the entire auto winding bridge. It's been on my wrist since 1/28 and it runs beautifully. Not too bad for a 43 year old watch that has never been serviced prior.

Glad you got it back and it should be good for a long time. Jack just serviced one of my watches to.
