Eterna-Matic Kontiki help please

Post by blubarb » Mon Jan 20, 2025 4:18 am

Hi all
I could do with some help with this Eterna-Matic KonTiki
There are a couple of issues with it:
1. The bezel is pretty much "welded" onto the case. I have a replacement bezel and insert to go, but to get this one free has become problematic. My watchmaker will most likely have to remove the movement and the plexi to get to it. This leads to a possibility that the plexi might crack and it's original.
***So, is finding an original plexi pretty much out of the question and if that is the case, can I find an aftermarket to fit? Whitescrystals in California does amazing work in creating crystals, so that could be an option I guess.

2. the crown stem and the tube are both Threaded

I have a correct crown with stem, but the tube is problematic, I guess. Any thoughts on what to do?

What movement were used in these - I believe it was late 1960s - has a 130 FTP case

I had a similar problem same model. The bezel ring did not move plus the wrong one but looked better than the bezel you have on that one. I sold it after I got my other Eterna Kontiki Super IDF. This was years ago when prices were better, I sold it for what I paid at the time 700 bucks. To a guy in Australia at the MWR PX another forum. Years later I ask on the forum about the buyer fixing that problem. He finely found a correct NOS bezel and bezel ring it cost more that the watch it took some years to find one he was able to remove the old one not sure how, but it can be done good luck and congrats on finding a Eterna Kontiki super. What they are worth now wished I kept it.

To remove the bezel is interesting - there is a bit of a trick to it

Couldn't budge this one. The crystal was removed without cracking it. Grinding the screws out of the bezel was necessary. As you can see, lots of wabi.
