IWC Porsche Design IW3702
IWC Porsche Design IW3702
Hey guys. I'm looking at a IW3702 from 1982. Here's the listing: https://www.chrono24.com/iwc/iwc-porsch ... 553354.htm
It would be my first real 'vintage' piece, just wondering if anyone here has any words of wisdom for a first timer.
The movement is an IWC adaptation of a Valjoux 7750 (IWC 790) which I think should be serviceable, but please let me know if I'm off base there.
The original watch has a water resistance of 6atm... with new gaskets and a pressure test can I expect that to still be the case? I wouldn't go swimming with it but between kids/dishes/life my hands usually get wet several times a day.
Thanks!

…the fact that this is being seen as “vintage” hurts my soul

Your chest hair pic had me totally jealous.

That watch is a total safe queen, and they list IWC service papers from 1989, so the oils will be totally dried out. You should anticipate that it needs an entire movement service, crown gasket, pusher gaskets, and caseback gasket, which are all hopefully standard sizes (unless you plan to send to IWC).
Maybe ask the seller to confirm they do not service or replace the gaskets, since that isn't going to be cheap (even if its a 7750).

Re: IWC Porsche Design IW3702
There is a possibility it was serviced saw this in the ad. But I would ask if it was serviced, and all gaskets replaced. I always factor in a service on any vintage watch I buy just in case the seller the seller lied about the service. most of the time they were serviced when told they were. Good luck on your first vintage watch.TSD wrote: ↑Tue Oct 03, 2023 9:06 am![]()

Duly noted. My name is Mike. I can’t believe how great Ive been treated here for almost the last two years. I’ve made a few posts, made some really good friends, have learned a ton, got some killer deals, and have learned how to take some fun pictures. I also “may” have rubbed some people the wrong way and I apologize for that. I’d also like to sincerely apologize to Andrew and everyone for my wrongful ask for an intro - I honestly searched his profile and my iPad spun forever and came back saying no posts :-(.
Lastly, I’d like to apologize for my meme problem - gimme a chance, I’m working on it.

Epic. That reminds me, now that we’re retired from corporate life and sharing a computer for our side business, I need to stop using “incognito” searches so my wife gets more sex toy advertisements when she’s on the computer. Maybe the subliminal messaging will get through to her.Ruggs wrote:All good Mike! If you post your full browser history here I’m sure somebody can help you troubleshoot that ipad
