Benrus Ultra Deep 6088 question

Hi all,

I’ve got a question about my Benrus Ultra Deep 6088, which my watchmaker is currently working on. It has a monocoque case, and when he removed the bezel so that he could get at the movement and dial, he saw that the crystal seemed to be glued to the case with some sort of epoxy. He managed to pry the crystal off so that he can get access to the dial. However, I suspect that this certainly is not the way the watch was built originally — I can’t imagine a company required the use of glue to affix the crystal.

The watchmaker believes the watch would have had a top hat crystal, which he said would be held in place with a retaining ring. My question is - does anyone know the specs on the correct crystal and where to source one? I would love any help - I hope to bring this rare watch back to its former glory!

This is a question better suited for the old river rat type guys at MWF.

Years ago I was trying to buy one of these and I bought parts when I could find them.

Let me look later but there is an extremely small chance I may have a crystal… but no promises on fit.

Update: perhaps the crystal for this one is a generic one? Or maybe there is a known generic replacement that would work on this watch? Any help is appreciated

Sorry no help here.
I have a Benrus crystal but it’s for the jumbo ultra deep with date.
The other one I found is for vintage Rolex.

There a crystal company I got a Wyler 660 diver crystal if they had that in stock they mite have one for yours I will have to look it up.

The crystal I got off them a perfect fit. I hope they have yours should be acrylic so they just mite have it. My case on the Wyler is the same as yours remove crystal to get to movement and most likely a split stem. Same as my Benrus type II issued diver.

That company also make custom made crystals so if you can get the original measurements and they mite know them since they most likely made them in the past. As back up if they are out of stock. Your watch will be nice with a original crystal and a service and vintage relume. Looks like you are already in the process.

Wonder if they ever tried to remake Acrylic bezel rings mite have to ask if I ever need one in a project.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I really appreciate your insight, the links, and the effort to find the crystal. Good news: a dealer I work with sometimes has sourced the correct NOS crystal for me. It’ll be headed to my watchmaker shortly. I’ll share pics of the finished watch!

Hi all! So I ordered that crystal that was recommended here (thanks again). But a new problem has emerged. Here’s what my watchmaker says: “Crystal arrived…..whilst it’s a good fit to the case, the retaining ring won’t screw down far enough to enable to the bezel to be pressed home and sit flush.” So, I am thinking the wrong retaining ring is fitted to this watch. Pictures are below showing the correct crystal with the existing retaining ring in place. Now, the million dollar question - if I am correct that it has the wrong retaining ring, does anyone know where to source the correct one?
