When in the US Navy, I was on the USS Proteus AS-19 a submarine tender a repair ship. When in Diego Garcia our ship did some repair work on the HMS Sheffield. After it left it headed for the Falklands war. Did not make it and it was hit by a missile from what I read it took out the loop system that supplies the water used to fight fires. I saw this plaque for sale on eBay and bought it to remember it dam they had carpets in the berthing spaces and a bar on board and they got to wear shorts as part of their uniform it's hot in the Indian ocean we got to know their crew and our ship felt sad for their crew. Somehow it made it to the USA with no stricken tariffs. Our ships cruise book had a memorial in it for the HMS Sheffield crew.
