Out With The Old...

Post by mattcantwin » Sun Aug 14, 2022 1:35 pm

Last year I bought a splitter from Costco to replace the 4 or 5 year old splitter I was currently using.

The old splitter got through the winter, but figured it's time to set the new splitter up.

I just need to build out the top of the broken work table base to fit the larger footprint.

Eventually, I'll build a new base.

Winter's coming.

I had to build out the top to accommodate the new splitter, but it's probably too high.

I'll get back to work tomorrow.

However, there is no way I plan to put it on the ground and lift it up again - too friggin' heavy.

The device is meant to cut wood right? Please tell me it's all/mostly for grilling
Or do you actually need wood to help warm you through the winter? Because unless you live in a stupid place like Europe where we shoot ourselves in the foot with regards to energy policy, I would imagine you have cheaper/more efficient alternatives that don't require manual work?
I'm puzzled

There is something special about the warmth from a wood stove, it's good for the soul; as is the manual work.

The splitter doesn't cut wood, it divides larger diameter pieces into smaller, easy to manage wood for the stove.

My wife and I love to sleep with blankets in the winter.

The wood stove keeps the "living areas" warm and the bedrooms cool.

We heat the house throughout the winter with just the stove (it's a small house) rarely using the oil burner for heating.

I lucked out setting up the new splitter on the "broken" work table.

When I collapsed the adjustable legs to the shortest length they were rock solid.

Think hydraulic press with a wedge on the business end. It forces a steel wedge through the log, lengthwise.

Unless I come across some free wood, I can rest until mid-September's firewood delivery.
