Clark's Desert Boots

Post by T.R. » Fri Feb 08, 2013 11:37 am

Hello boys.........

Do any of you sport Clark's Desert Boots? Do you like them, how do they fit, and are they durable? Where do you buy yours?

I've always thought they were pretty cool, but there is no place in my town to try them on.

I'm kind of digging these bad boys in waxed leather.

Thanks in advance.

I have those exact ones. I like them a lot. I wouldn't call them durable though, not in comparison to some of the boots that folks sport (and definitely in comparison to the couple Red Wings I have).

The crepe sole is the main culprit for that. I don't like it at all. If I could put a cork sole similar to my Iron Rangers on there, I think it's a winner.

Other than the sole, though, I don't have any complaints. They're a classic look and slightly less "workboot" than many of the other casual boots out there.

I would rather have a pair of Red Wing Beckman chukkas.

I have one pair of Clark boots that I usually only wear when we go out to dinner (of course I still treat them like shit though). I dig them, but my wife has 4 pairs of there boots and we have learned that their zippers do not last on the women's version. She does like their boots comfort wise but all 4 of them had the zippers replaced after the 1st year.

Here is a pic of mine.

Oh and order that shit from Zappos so you can return with no issues at all.

I think that's the waxed leather one. That has a more durable sole, better than crepe. OnlineShoes has discount coupons for them. They're probably the nice Clark's chukkas.
If your feet require significant support, you won't get them with these. Walking for long periods may get uncomfortable.

Good thread, I was always curious about the Clark's boots as well. I'm assuming the soft sole if very comfortable. Unfair to compare to Wolverine 1000 mile as they are $350 compared to $100 and change for the Clarks.

I have worn Clark Desert Boots for the past 28 years. I always get the waxed model, which Jay pointed out, have a bit more durable soles. These are great summer kicks and I love them.

Having said this, with the IRs and 1000 Milers now in the stable, and a pair of Aldens finally on the way, no sure if Clarks will stay as my summer boots. I will say that I have never, in all this time, had any issues nor concerns with my Clarks, although quality has fallen off a bit in recent years, excepting my particular model (for some reason).

I'd give them a shot as a comfortable alternate option to IRs, at a quarter of the price.

They are iconic. Apparently no major change in the design since the Brit Tommies fought Rommel's Afrika corp in WW2. The crepe sole is not so durable but very quiet if you are sneaking out from the wife to get some strange or you are a hitman. The really are shoe and not a boot. I've owned suede and the waxed. Waxed more durable but the suede gets the "worn in " look patina quicker. Get this...I may be deranged but I wear them with shorts during the summer and I think they look cool...

All of this ^^^.

I wear mine with shorts, dress chinos, jeans, etc, etc. They are simply awesome boots and worth the $60-$70 a pair that I pay (through a re-seller I know who keeps a pair for me every year and has for the past 15 years  ).

Clarks are a classic. Check out Macalisters as well. JCrew sells a bunch of them.

I used to wear the suede version all the time - work and leisure, and although not a fair comparison, eventually moved on to Loake chukkas. Mind you, this thread is making me think about getting another pair for casual wear with chinos.

You guys are awful. Just picked up some Clarks Bushacres. Like the desert boots but with a tougher sole.

Wow... I haven't seen Clarks desert boots in years! We were allowed to wear the black suede ones as part of our uniform in high school... I thought that was the best thing ever then

Stop with the darn boot threads!!! PLEASE
My wife is gonna kill me and started asking me... "Well it was watches, now is it boots and shoes too????" As larger packages started arriving
So I needed shoes for the office, so for two pairs of Allen Edmonds
Then all the freaking boot talk here, made me think how long it'd been since I had worn boots(then I wore Arche boots, then Timberland)... And decided to buy two pairs of AE boots and got a pair of Red Wing landing soon from Michael
