Anyone own Hartmann?
I am looking to pick up some new luggage and am leaning towards Hartmann. does anyone own their hardside carry on or checked in bags?
I am also considering these too:
- TravelPro Crew
- Briggs & Riley
- Tumi
- Samsonite Silhouette
I want something tough, not black and lightweight.

Don't own Hartmann...
DO own Saddlebag leather hard, square old school luggage...the large and medium sized. Pretty rugged. Apparently people fight over this luggage when they die. Plus it may not scream "steal me" when checked....
Check out RIMOWA. All aluminum...made in Germany. NOT cheap but typical Teutonic , kraut quality....Will likely get you probed and violated by the TSA though....looks kinda terroristy...

Disappointed in my Tumi, quality isn't there IMHO. Briggs & Riley is bulletproof.

I have some of Samsonites new stuff and have been very happy with it--use it for business...

I have a TravelPro that has a gazillion miles on it and hasn't failed yet.

I've had Hartmann. Nice stuff, but I wouldn't travel with it. A bitch of an ex-Boss had her set mangled in transit. Karma, but in the end, you really want durability in your luggage. Handcrafted or not, yeah?
My Saddleback stuff is carry-on. If you want casual, rugged, stuff, check out Red Oxx. If you want business tough, check out some of the names above.
Two cents.

I've got several million miles in business travel, and have owned most of those...I still use a Hartmann hanging bag, but have given up on Tumi luggage (still use the briefcase) - honestly, the best value, weight and usability to me is Eagle Creek...they work great and when they fail, it was 40% of Tumi prices and lasted just as long...

I used samonite for all of my trips to Iraq for almost 4 years with no issues. but I used a Marmont backpack for carrying stuff.
