New to G-Shock and looking for a back up watch

This is probably not a path I should be going anywhere near but here goes:

I just killed my original rally watch that I used as a backup to much newer Fastime Copilote when on an event. I'm now considering getting a G-Shock to use as a back up to the rally watch as opposed to getting a second Copilote and relgating this one to my right wrist. The copilote handles all my rally timing needs, stage time, count down to check in etc so the back up is really just to keep time and I possibly use it to time stages in case the other one dies mid event.

Requirements are:

Large digital only display
Possibly atomic time but it would need to be overridable so I can set it to event time (which may vary slight from atomic time)
Good backlight
Cheaper is better but then I don't really know the difference between a $50 and $300 G-Shock?

I'm confused with many different G-Shock models, price point etc. Any advice or suggestions would be appriciated.

I own the 5610 in the picture. Good watch.

However, for a specific task like Rally timing, where you maybe wearing gloves, the buttons could be very hard to push.

Easiest buttons I've found are on the rescue

Pretty similar timing features, still has atomic time and really easy to hit buttons. In addition, it shows time while displaying the stopwatch, which could be very useful so you don't have to switch away from stopwatch if you want to see actual time.

Oh yeah If you need to hit buttons while driving don’t do a square. Rescue is a good choice. I wore one prob 12-13 years ago as my daily and besides the size it was great. And mine was negative display which I didn’t like.

I like the square, even though I don't drive and don't wear gloves (I just sit there reading!) bigger pushers are always better as there a lot going on at stage start and finish.

Could be a good option too, even bigger display.

I own the 5610, Rescue, Rangeman and Protek (1300 maybe?)

My order would be:

1. Rescue
2. Rangeman (it's more expensive and you don't need a lot of the features)
2.(it's a tie) Protek - again maybe more money but big display and again easy to find buttons
4. 5610 because of the small buttons and the fact that the reset is on the opposite side. I'd find that awkward I think...

Any are good reliable inexpensive options and will take a beating of course

Thanks for all the sugestions. Thinking about it more I'll probably get a new copilote and use the current one as back up, they're built for rallying so whilst not as rugged as a G-Shock the rally specific features proboably outweigh the benifits of a G-Shock.

I am however interested in getting one, either a rescue or a square one like Ben's becuase I've never owned a G-Shock and that's a good excuse to buy a watch!

James, the 5610 is the watch I most often wear to the gym and cycling. Low profile, easy wearing, great little watch. You'll enjoy it!
