New Seiko NATOs

Post by Steve O. » Mon Jul 12, 2021 10:36 am

I first saw this in WatchTime magazine. Seiko has introduced a new heavy duty fabric strap to go with the SPB239 and SPB237 divers. I think you can only get them with the watches, but I may be wrong. Pretty cool IMO.

I like that new gray-green patina dial SPB237 Willard variant.

I like those designs quite a bit!

Someone over on WUS was asking about what type of watch strap was best for surfing, and I responded in my opinion, there is a difference between a good surfing watch strap and a good diving watch strap.

Lug holes, shoulderless spring bars, and a good NATO or ZULU strap is just about the best you can do for surfing (or any "extreme-ish" activity).

For diving, the Seiko accordion vented rubber strap is hard to beat.

Diving in a NATO can be an annoyance as the strap gets looser as you go deeper, and surfing using a rubber strap is fine until something breaks and you lose the watch.

I'd think the straps will be available separately at some point, they will likely be getting plenty of requests for them

This looks great. I have been thinking of adding a black dial soon.
