My solution....24mm straps on 26mm lug panerais

I know alot of you have many 24mm straps...and getting the 372 and other 26mm watches - panerai and others - make you buy all the straps again. And simply putting a 24mm strap on works, but the watch rocks back and forth with the extra space. Also, I prefer the 24mm size overall for wearability vs an untapered 26mm strap - it is just big.

I had a simple idea one night - o-rings to fill the gaps. I dont know if this has been done before, and i havent searched so my the solution...

Did a search, and knew I needed thin, pliable and small diameter o-rings, with one on each side of the strap.

Found a site: O-ring Warehouse at http://www.oringwarehouse.com/?gclid=CI ... 4Aod9BODfw and did a guessing game on sizing and ordered a few sizes. Unfortunately you have to order a minimum amount, but it is very cheap. The winner turned out to be AS568-003 rings (I ordered the nitrile).

Installed on my 187 (and soon 372) with the Micah French Canvas and here are the pics...

Dont think it looks too bad, in fact pretty good in the end. Dont really notice, and I tend to wear darker straps anyway.

Better than nothing, but come on, get a strap that fits. Get a nice tapered 26mm strap (even a taper down to 22 would look cool).

I'm on a budget ;)

But seriously, I am tired of spending ~150 to 250 a custom made strap, only to wear a couple of times.

I mostly wear the 187 on the panerai rubber (best rubber strap on the market other than the AP Roo Diver), and like only a few straps. I have bought way too many straps over the years, and half the time, the 24mm straps turn out around 25mm (which is really close).

Hence, my literally 20 cent solution.

Now I can buy more watches.

I recently made the mistake of adding up the cost of the 24mm straps I have. Let's just say I could buy a really nice watch with that money, and that is not counting the 22mm straps I have stored away for use on a watch I don't have.

Eh, I'm not sure on that one. No, it's not noticeable but it's just the fact - the 372 deserves better - there are plenty of barely used/new straps for sale daily on the Accessory Corner on P.com if you don't want to wait/pay the bill for a custom one.

I've already spent about $700 on straps (some of which I haven't gotten yet) but that's just part of it.

I like it! I think that could also work with the funky 21mm (Doxa 750t) and 23mm (BP FF) lug width watches out there where you have to decide to go up in size or down and either way you are a little off.

Absolutely. This is just the example.

I am sure there are also colors available for these...

Well it's better than exposed bar. Shriveled strap is embarrassing in appearance.

I think it's a fairly elegant solution to the problem, but since WIS are anally retentive by nature, how long until it begins to bother you every time you look down...

I think I could rock the o-rings on a cheap[er] beater, but not on something like the 372. :snooty:
